I bought a Relentless Fab 0.100" raw aluminum tailgate stiffener/protector for a 2nd gen tailgate. Turns out it won't work on my truck without modification due to interference with the camper shell rear door, so it won't close completely. The test fit was positive, fit my tailgate well so I have no doubt of the quality.

Been thinking of ways to modify the protector to work but it may be easier just to go with a panel for the main body and leave the stock plastic top cap in place. So if anyone's interested in this let me know. I'd be most interested in a straight trade for one without the top cap, new or used is fine.

I kept the shipping box if it comes down to that but a TW freight line or meet up would be better since it's not an urgent need.

Not trying to convince you not to sell, but thought I’d share my experience.

I had a similar issue with my shell and my voodoo tailgate cap (has the same overhang). I just took a pair of pliers to the inside of the handles and bent them back the slightest amount so that they would latch.

Not my picture, and not the best quality but this is the piece that I bent. Again, it was extremely minimal, like 5degrees or less

I understand what you're talking about but it's the lip of the door along the whole length. I'll have to bend the bottom of the door and it's not easy to do without breaking the glass. Right now the two rods (I have a single handle in the middle, old school topper construction) wouldn't even touch the back of the camper shell since the door hits the tailgate before it's inside the channel and leaves a finger-width gap at the bottom.

5.5 lift front 4 rear on 33s with an endless amount more work to do
Or have somebody cut off the cap and use the factory one. Otherwise I would be interested in buying that from you depending on price. I dont run a topper and plan on going tonneau cover on my truck so that would work great for me.

Guys, I appreciate what you're trying to do. The fit of the camper doesn't allow much flexibility. It's already borderline on a 2nd gen Tacoma, being originally designed to fit 79-95 trucks. I already have it pushed back about as far as I can and still get a seal on the front of the box.

I was considering just trimming the back edge off the Relentless tailgate panel, but then the topper door would be rubbing directly on the tailgate steel. Right now the seal is resting on the plastic cap, which is better actually.

Like I said, I'm just throwing it out there to see what I catch before I start permanently modifying it for my truck. A plain steel or aluminum panel without the extra bent in cap would be better than nothing and I could just shear the Relentless one down for that, too. But seems like a waste since it is pretty nifty as made.

I could be talked into buying this depending on price and the use of TW Express.

It would be closer to $280 and we generally try not to say anything until they ask why they are not selling.
