I'm thinking about taking a vacation in Florida and wondering which city/location has the best beaches, places to see and things to do. I'm a single guy so there will be no family to worry about. I just want to get away and relax.

Well if your wanting to come to Florida I would stick to the East Coast for now. I know there is some news that the oil spill is with in 100 mile for the west coast and the pan handle is already being hit by tar balls. The health risks of being around that stuff are not good in the long term. I personally like Coco Beach because if you go north to New Smyrna and Daytona they allow cars on the beach which can be a pain, but they will have more of a Party scene if thats what your looking for. If you really want to party go to South Beach in Miami but hotels are gonna be expensive.

If you stay between Daytona and Coco your an hour from Orlando which has lots to offer. Night time at Universal is cool because they have City Walk which has a few clubs assuming your over 21

Miami. My favorite city in the US. I could live on South Beach.

My vote would be for Clearwater, St Pete, and if you wanted to you could party in Ybor. Miami is also really nice, as are the Keys.

There's no oil on the Clearwater/St Pete beaches. If you go a little farther south you also have Anna Maria Island. There is a trolley system there that will take you anywhere on the island - it's free on Anna Maria island but the one on Longboat Key(just over the bridge) is a fee based trolley. Nice beaches and great restaurants too. I was just there two weeks ago with the wife for our anniversary.

Daytona Beach!! If you like a peaceful quiet atmosphere, head down a little farther south to Ponce Inlet...there's good waves, great scenery, and good fishing off the jetty. Let me know if you need any more info.

I am moving down to the tampa area, I love the gulf side, but considering the spill and some beaches have tar balls, Bonita beach near ft. meyers is a great beach, this past xmas, new yrs. wife and I went to Kennedy space center. cocoa beach and then down to south beach > you cannot go wrong with either. Considering your coming from colorado, I think any beach is going to be good....

    Awesome thanks!
Huh, will have to look into that one

I like to fish but don't like to eat it.

Very true. Any beach is like a tropical paradise for me. Haven't been to the atlantic ocean yet. I've seen the gulf and pacific but the atlantic has always looked nicer.

If you stay in Orlando you're relatively in the middle and not too far from the locations mentioned above.

Had a great time this weekend at the Suncoast Offshore races. They run along the beach off Siesta and Lido Keys. Biggest beach party of the year.

Be sure to visit the Daquari Deck while on Siesta. Siesta doesn't have any restaraunts right on the beach like Anna Maria does. If you want to have a meal right on the beach head north to Anna Maria and choose from the Beach House, Gulf Drive Cafe, Beach Bistro or the Sandbar Restaraunt.
