I totally liked your "presentation plates". That's how you make everything look EXPENSIVE!

I DO think your "Texas Size Presentation" of some good looking soup looked both delicious, and costly! :spending::hungry:

Looks good! This weather is great for trying out new soups and stews. I think I'm going to probably make a good pot of pinto beans this weekend. Need to get some salt pork to throw in to cook down with the beans.

The pork cubes yesterday even got the boyfriend's stamp of approval(he was not a fan the first 2 times)so I think I finally found the right seasoning/sauce combo for us.

Where do you get your pork belly? I bought a pre-packaged 5lb one from HEB and it was almost $25. I'm wondering if I find a meat market if they will have better pricing.

Meat market is usually the best bet. But I get em at Costco. They have whole bellies usually for 2.69/lb @ 10 lbs each. around $27 for for the slab

Must be the COLD wind and dropping temp here in Centex (stop snickering @Bigdaddy4760 and @FastEddy59) Since we're stuck on food, tomorrow AM I WILL awake (in the actual morning), and make up a batch of my "modified" Wick Fowler chili! Just follow the recipe on the box, except, cut up some green peppers, 1014 onion, a can of Rotel with chilies, a couple of the last jalapeno from the garden. Yummies. And that nice smell all day long. Might even make a day fire in the fireplace for the wife. (Don't do overnights anymore, because the logs don't last, and we get a cold draft!) :dancingbacon::hungry::stirthepot:

Meat candy is a pretty good description. :)

As for patience, my grandmother is the one who taught me to cook and I've been doing it since I was knee high to a grasshopper(as we say in the south). I learned early on that good things take time and you can definitely taste the difference between something you rushed vs something you did right.

oh, that comes with the starter kit - like getting your meds all measured out in the mail! Just do the meat in a pan, and all goes into the crock pot. I MIGHT give the onions and pepper a little pan gloss, per the @4x4_angel recipe! Very OLD crock pot.

Hi everyone. Since we are on the subject of meat candy, I am worried I will not be able to afford 25 lbs of bacon this weekend.
