I felt the same way except for an extended cab. When I bought mine new years weekend 2016 I would have loved a Pro or maybe a Limited in an access cab. I really wanted leather but not as part of a $7k option in a double cab only. I had quite a few Fords and for years you could order a cheap F150 XL model with leather. Big disappointment when couldn't get leather in a Sport back then. There were really no options to build a Tacoma. At least now you have wheel and grille options. Thanks to Clazzio leather seat covers (also triple black) I am very satisfied. Nothing wrong with a double cab but my last Taco double cab only carried groceries or a lunch box in the rear seat. So now I have something like a mini-Pro.

Bilsteins 5100s on the top setting, 4runner Gray TRD Pro Sema wheels, 285/70/17 Toyo AT3s, Sumo Bump stops, TRD exhaust, ECGS Clamshell bushing, 1/4 shim for the lean and one inch rear block, OEM Pro grill and garnish OEM TRD Skid plate, TRD CAI, Demon Brackets, Rigid Industries Pro fog lights, OEM Trail Rails sidebars, Diode Dynamics LED SL1 high and low beam lights, OEM Roof racks, Clazzio leather heated seats, Remote Start, TRD Pro shift knob, tinted windows, Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amp for the headunit and sub and amp combo, OEM Puddle lights, OEM tailgate lock, OEM bed mat, LED interior lights, OEM blackout kit for letters, JLT catch can, upgraded 27F toyota True Start battery, Vleds led tail light kit with Pro tail lights, OEM Rave4 side mirrors with convex spotters, just to name a few mods.
Thank you. Yea I had it lifted on 5100s front and back. Set on the 4th highest setting, alignment is perfect, stock springs and UCA, added a 1 inch block in the rear. Rides like a dream, better than the Sport ride which was great. It handles better in the curves, floats like a cady. No vibrations, shaking, all quiet, and no rubbing at all, 265/70/17 SL Toyo Open Country at2s.I wanted the mud flap to stay. I don't know where people get this that it compresses your factory springs, Bilstein 5100 don't! The Off Road shop I used has done several, they know what to do and not do. They are one of the best. I did the 1/4 shim for the Taco lean and ECGS bushing. Again its not a firm or jolting feeling ride, kind of a forgiving feeling when going over bumps, railroad tracks, it just drives!

I plan on picking a set of those weels up when I get the funds, I know the backspacing is different from the factory sport wheels, but is it anything to be concerned about?

It's only a slight bit. They won't stick outside the wheelwells. They are perfect and it will handle better.

I used the bulletproof fab bracket and used a grinder to grind clearance on the pro skid. The aluminum skid is easy to grind. Don't have a picture on my phone but can post one tomorrow if you want. Also bulletproof fab has 25% off sale going on now.
