I have an old Mag Lite flashlight that uses 4 D-size batteries and an incandescent bulb. I've seen there are many upgrades for Mag Lites online. I would like to get an LED conversion conversion for it with as many lumens as I can; as well as a Li-Ion rechargeable battery.

Where are the best places to get these?

I’ve got the same Maglight flashlight. Maglight offers LED conversion bulbs. However I’ve compared it to their LED from the ground up flashlights and the reflectors are different. You can just buy some high capacity rechargeable D-batteries and a charger for it. However, it is more economical to buy a new LED flashlight than retrofit an old one.

I have the Duracell 1000 lumen flashlight which is only $20, and the build quality and output seems better than the old Maglight. I’ve also compared it to my friends LED Maglight and the Duracell is far brighter, it also has an adjustable beam. Food for thought.

I'm disappointed in my old Maglite, eats the batteries, defective batteries ruined another. Better stuff out there. Don't use then anymore, but the D cell size one would be a good weapon.

I have this flashlight, too. It's fantastic.

I have the same 4D mag lite and converted it with their led bulb. It was ok until I purchased a Nitecore MH25. Blows the maglight out of the park in every way. No big batteries to store and it's so much smaller and BRIGHTER with a solid beam. The maglite didn't have a solid beam and was spotty with the led bulb. Have had the MH25 light for at least 7 years with zero issues. I have 5 Nitecore lights now. MH25, MH25GTS, MH10, MH12 and SRT9. And like stated above you don't have to worry about the D battery leaking and ruining the maglite. They are a little more than what I paid for my maglite years ago but worth it. Just food for thought. O-light makes some nice lights too.

Another valid use for an old maglite. That's pretty awesome.

I don't get it, is the mag lite supposed to be a supressor? what's inside the mag lite?

It’s a suppressor built with a maglite body. There’s a few different ways to do the baffles inside. Search google and you’ll find some good examples. As always, not legal without the right paperwork.
