I'd be very careful if this is the first time you've towed anything. You're awfully close to the limit of the truck with just that load, add in occupants and any other stuff you toss in the bed or back seat and you'll probably be there.

On a practical note, tow in 4th gear, never in D. Take your time and keep it well under the speed limit on the highway. Try to give yourself plenty of space to stop. Keep an eye on engine temp and if you have a scangauge/ultragauge, watch the transmission temps too.

Good to know; it would likely only be me in the truck and if I needed could throw a couple light things in the bed. This trip up wasn't a priority to get stuff moved as much as the car up there.

Have an M/T so I figured I be dropping a few gears. Don't have a scan gauge though so I'd only see the engine temp rising :/

I also got one of those promo mailers. I have not seen anything about an official OEM remote starter anywhere. I figured they'd just buy a 3rd party starter and claim its "OEM" cause it uses the factory FOB.

I just got mine from the marketplace here on the forum. Took 10 mins to install in my 3rd gen. 150 or so dollars. So worth it.

That configuration without a weight distribution hitch is also going to put a lot of weight on the back of your truck. If there's any way that you can get your hands on a trailer with a weight distribution setup I'd definitely recommend it over the U-Haul rig.

My first ever towing experience was a uhaul trailer and an early 90s BMW on the taco. It can certainly be fine. I would hope for snow/ice free travel. I would recommend an antibiotic sway system of sorts and do you have aftermarket leafs or air bags? The truck will certainly be leaning. And with how much stuff you might have to buy, it may be better to pay someone to transport it.

If you've never towed before, pushing the limit on your rating, on a U-haul with a crappy surge break, in a snow storm, for your first attempt is ambitious. You'd probably be ok, if you take it easy and drive like there's an egg under the pedals, but why not just wait for a sunny day? The car will be filthy by the time you get up there, even towing it, so it'll need a thorough washing before it sets all winter so that the salt doesn't just sit there and eat it.

I am a little unfamiliar with the marketplace. Can you post the link where you purchased it, And are you happy with it, And is it compatible with second generation? Thank you

I've towed my polaris ranger, my mower and my fathers 4k lb boat. Up big long hills with heavy loads, it's a little slow, and I would use the shifting option to hold the gears you want.

If you are towing 3.5k or less I would say it can do it no problem. Go much higher than that and I start feeling it a little. I don't have a brake controller installed either so stopping needs to be done well ahead of time if you are carrying heavier stuff. Tows my 1k lb lawn mower and the trailer like nothing though.

I thought the tow package enabled up to 6500 lbs towing?

I think it's higher actually, at least on my 18'. Just because something can tow it's max, doesn't mean it is going to be smooth and you won't notice it. The truck can do what it is rated at, but I was just letting you now at what points I find you start to notice you are pulling something back there.
