Need help! My 96 Tacoma pretty much died on me when I was working. I have no power to anything not even the door chime goes off. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Things I've done so far, I changed the battery and alternator, battery cables cleaned and are tight, there's continuity, fuses are good. Don't know if I'm missing something to check.

time to break out the meter and get some real world numbers.

So you have no idea what the problem is yet changed a battery and alternator.

This happened while the truck was parked nothing happened prior ?? Charge light not on?? Slow or no cranking??

The truck gave no warning as to when it died. One minute it was running then it wasn’t, which was very odd to me.

Also when this initially happen I would be able to get the truck running for about 15 mins before it died. Now I can’t even get the door chime to go off.

When I was able to turn it over started with no problem. But it took some time to get it to turn over. So I’m baffled by this.

Give us battery specs. Is the new one new, or borrowed?

Why did you replace the alternator on a non running truck?

I changed the alternator because of the way it shut off gave me the impression it was the alternator. So as of right now the battery is dead.

You'll need a healthy, fully charged battery to be able to do diagnosis.

Ok. I’ll get the battery tested to make sure it’s still good and go from there, and reply back.

battery cables could be "corroded" under the insulation.

They're copper, but yeah, they could be *oxidized*.
("Rust" is a word that specifically refers to IRON oxide).

Ground leads are a common failure point. Not just the wires themselves, but the connection to the chassis.
Test everything for voltage and continuity.

So I don’t have a charger but was lucky to exchanged the battery for a new one, but the weather hasn’t been cooperating with me it’s been raining, snowing and just cold. The battery cables is something to investigate if they rusted inside the insulation.

Like I said already: BATTERY CABLES ARE NOT MADE OF IRON, SO THEY CANNOT RUST.

Buy a battery charger. That's your first priority. Doesn't have to be a huge one, but it does have to be a GOOD one.
