    Where would one rent one?

Nothing is aftermarket in the suspension department; all stock. Not looking for anything crazy just a way to get it done this time and doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. I was ideally hoping it would be rent the trailer, get a ball in the hitch and go.

I could I just don't have many open days to get this done as well as get everything tranferred into ME before my registration expires 11/30. I technically have the first week of Dec off but, I've been assuming the long I wait the worse chance of it getting up there is.
Honestly I haven't washed the car once this year so I wouldn't be surprised if there is some shit on there from last winter. I have to do this car by hand cause car washes cause it to leak in and I haven't had the time this year. The truck barely even got washed... So the flith isn't as much of a worry as just getting it up there in 1 piece so it doesn't sit out all winter under a paper thin, hole ridden car cover in my parents driveway.

When you are saying those weights are you talking total wieght or just the vehicle weight? Mustang is ~3k, the trailer is ~2.2k unloaded, so I'll be at 5.2k total with the stock towing capabilities. So I'm definitely on the higher end of the tow rating.

I think and have head that most U-hauls are real bitchy about renting flat bed car haulers to people with compact pickups. They will probably talk you into a car dolly, and at that point you probably are better off just driving it up. The math to figure your tow rating is screwy, you need to figure the tongue weight of the trailer against your GVWR of the vehicle of which the Tacoma is fairly weak. All the manufacturers play games with tow ratings, Toyota says 6500 lbs with the tow package but if you do the GVWR math it's usually going to be substantially less. You'll basically have to haul nothing else, including a passenger, but plenty of people ignore this and make out fine. Anyway, all that aside a car is a challenging tow, anything that moves (liquid or on suspension) can really mess with the truck and how it drives. If it were me I would probably wait for a dry day and drive the 'Stang up, but you know what they say about opinions!

I think the boat total with trailer is 4k. The trailer and Ranger combined are probably around 4.3k if I have all the armour and accessories on my Ranger at the time. I think you could do it, but like @jethro said, you also have to be careful about all the other weight in the vehicle. Sounds like this is a car only run, so you would most likely be good. The only thing I would be concerned about at that weight is your stopping distances, without brakes on the trailer, you could get pushed around a bit, and on the highway that can be dangerous. If you had some brakes and took it easy, realizing it's going to be a long trip, I think you'd be fine.

Getting a dry day would be the ideal situation but I'd also need someone to drive up with me so they could drive me home to get my truck. Otherwise I'll have no way to drive around but use the stang; that was part of the reason for wanting to tow it since then I wouldn't need a second person to drive me back so it would save some steps/hassle.

The Uhaul trailer has surge brakes which I know most people don't favor.

It's sounding like I thought it would: it's not ideal & has the potential to be sketchy but, it could be done

Yup, to figure it out you really need to determine curb weight (should be GVWR minus the "combined weight of occupants and cargo" number on your door sticker). Once you have curb weight, subtract that from the GCWR to come up with your real max number.

For instance, Ford says my truck is rated at 8100 lbs. But, according to my curb weight and GCWR that only leaves 185 lbs. Between me and the stuff that's in the truck all the time, I'd probably be right at that if I were really towing 8100. If my truck had a few more heavy options adding to the curb weight (sunroof, skid plates, larger fuel tank), I'd never actually be able to tow that number.

I'll take a look at those numbers tonight to see how I'm looking cause I have added some weight to the Taco.

It's a good vehicle. After 13+ years of driving a manual, that's what I miss most about the Tacoma. The 4Runner has a nicer interior, and more toys to play with. Even though the 4Runner is heavier than my Tacoma, oi probably does better on gas too (stock vs stock)

The one I bought only works for 3rd Gens. It does work pretty well though.
