My neighbors wife was pissed at her husband and tried to run him over in the driveway. Wasn't there but they were soon divorced (multiple issues, least of all his new girlfriend).

Alright folks, help me out with something here...just need some opinions/advice/suggestions.

So I got hired on at this company as a mechanical engineer, underneath my boss, to be trained/molded by him into what he wants/needs and work with him. His boss is a company owner, and obviously also my boss.

So since I've been here I've done progressively more and more of the engineering (aside from providing a PE stamp obviously) on each of the projects we get. I probably do 90% of the engineering now on our projects.

This year they (meaning 60% my owner boss's boss, and 40% my boss) have decided I'm far enough along to start taking on more responsibility, meaning project management, on top of my engineering duties. Sounds great, they trust me, I'm moving up, yada yada. Even if I feel like engineering and project management should be separate positions, that's not really how my company works, we all do a bit of everything.

Ok so I have 4 projects that are MINE. Meaning I'm the PM and I'm the Engineer, minus reviewing/stamping things that my boss will do for me.

So that's 4 projects that I'm doing 90% of the engineering and probably 95% of the PM work. We have 5 other new projects, 4 of which I am doing 90% of the engineering because he delegates that to me and he's doing the PM work, and 1 of which he will do the engineering and PM work. Now I also review his stuff too, just to give it more eyes, but he always has to stamp. We have about 6 projects that are almost closed out and requiring very little efforts at this point other than some submittals and he's basically handling those. Then we have like 2 or 3 that are beyond engineering design but just requiring PM work that he is handling as well.

    So tally that up...

8 projects I am doing 90% engineering, 1 project he is doing 90% engineering.
4 projects I am doing 95% PM work, 5 projects he is doing 95% PM work.
6 projects he is tying up loose ends on.
2 or 3 projects he is doing the final PM work on, probably 20-30% left.

To me, my 4 projects that are MINE are priority to me. Since I am PM and Engineer they need to go well, and that's all according to me. Well, his obviously still need the engineering done and he's of the mindset that any work his need is priority...for him AND ME. Like today I told him 1 of my projects is priority over his depending on my timeline, and he said "no that's not how it works" basically because he's my direct boss and dictates that, but I'm not of the mindset that I'm going to let mine get behind because he wants his done on time...he can do his if they're getting behind.

So here's the questions/advice I'm wanting. Do I just need to suck it up, work more and more hours to keep mine and his on track and just do what he asks/says no questions asked? or should I see that my 4 projects are higher priority for me and work his in as I can and scheduling wise to keep mine on track first and his the best I can?

Basically I feel like he doesn't do much except make phone calls all day and he claims all the time like he has SO MANY PROJECTS and I'm like dude I do 90% of your work for you...which yes I was hired to work for/with him, but he has this attitude that he is the best engineer (yes he knows his shit very well) and that he is a project manager from Heaven, and that he trains everyone in the company and doesn't get enough recognition for all he does blah blah blah...just arrogance...our COO and others see/express that same opinion too.

Sorry... I know TLDR but just give me some advice, tell me to suck it up, etc idc...just needed to rant a little..

thanks man, you give me more credit than I deserve. I am going to give it a little time, just wanted to toss my thoughts out and see if anyone ever had something similar. you say you have no real advice, but giving it a few days, having a beer, and staying proactive...is good advice. so thank you.
