Truck pulling to the right when breaking.

I have been having this problem for awhile now and I am hoping that someone can help me.

Whenever I break, my truck pulls hard to the right. I have to keep my steering wheel straight when I break.

I have had my truck aligned twice in one year and my tires balanced and rotated. Both of these have not helped the resolve the problem.

Does anyone else have this problem or any solutions??? I am thinking a faulty caliper but the Toyota mechanic thinks it is just an alignement issue....I told him that was a load of crap. Please someone help me.

 

Take it to a shop that specializes in brakes and get their opinion.

 

If it's when you're braking then it's probably an uneven brake wear problem due to pads wearing faster on one side, air in the lines, glazed pads, etc. Like Super Werty said, take it to a brake shop.

Oh the the things you see and find as a mechanic. The metal on metal until it melted the brake lines will always have a special place in my heart.

definite caliper issue.replace both sides if you can.

I replaced mine last month for almost $200 a piece, including the $100 core charge. It was a reman Cardone product.

Are you serious? Do you let the stealership do your oil changes too?

 

Seriously. Anyone can say "Take it to a brake shop" but the guy obviously is using this enthusiasts site because he wants to do it to himself. That response always fascinates me because who would need the site if everyone just brought everything in for service and never did anything themselves?

Sounds like a caliper to me as well, especially considering the other issues you've eliminated.

 

I've had the same issue with my 07 except it doesn't happen all the time...just once in a while.

 

You can do most of the caliper replacement work yourself. Keep in mind you'll have to take it in to get the ABS bled.

 

... and don't forget to change your headlight fluid.



Remove old calipers, mount new calipers, bleed said calipers, drive your truck straight while braking. Leave ABS alone

 

Headlight fluid? Leave ABS alone? Now I know you're joking.

 

If you're not introducing air into the ABS module (which you shouldn't be if you're just changing your calipers), there's no need to bleed the ABS module.

Word of caution - calipers are not cheap for our trucks!

 

Oh no I don't take my truck for that. This dealership is a shame to the toyota name.

 

if your brave why not just rebuild both sieds yourself? and i'd replace the hoses too they might be blocked which would also cause the same effect. oh and if you don't want the fluid to leak out while the calipers are off block the brake pedal in the applied position somehow, 2x4 seems like it would work well

 

Thank you everyone for all of the help. I greatly appreciate it! I had new rotars and brake pads already installed on my truck due to the left rotar warping. The pads and rotars are about three months old. I will go to a more reliable toyota dealership due to the jackasses in Yuma and to use my warranty. Thank you again!!!!

 

I would like to do that myself but if it is a faulty caliper then I would rather have toyota fix their problem. Thank you for the tip though.

 

Could alignment play a role in this? Just curious if after off roading or hitting a curb, having toe in/out or a stray on one side would cause a pull to one side.
