So here’s the car. Didn’t hurt the house much. She hit mostly brick. I popped most of the dent out with hot water. She said she was looking at the bushes and hit the garage opening.

Do it part time just to get your feet wet. Currently working with a 30+ year old intern who is going to be a millionaire one day. He is former Marine, worked as contractor/hired gun for security for State Department at US Embassy in Kabul and well qualified dog handler/trainer. We have been scouring government contracts for potential work and today we noted 10 dogs being sold to detect bed bugs (yeah, thats right, bed bugs) for 60K. They can generally be procured, assessed and given basic training in about 6 months for about 2K each. The dog contracts occur on a continuing basis with dogs being retired after a few years. DEA, DHS, military and private agencies all want them and they will do the primary training. You just have to pick the litters and come up with trainable ones to sell them. Tons of government contracts out there. My brother in Panama City noted that all of a sudden these black trucks with non-de-script license plates starting showing up to pick up trash. Someone applied for a contract put out on government site and built semis that haul two large trash bins with a picker in between them. Someone has picked up several or more million dollars (low-ball estimate) and now has equipment to deal with next disaster (California?). And this is no joke but have a friend in Anniston whose classmate is now a millionaire. Leases out porta potties for the same kind of disasters and other events in between. Jeff could probably comment on a bunch of this as well. I'm moving into retirement phase for Federal job and looking for new opportunities that give me the time off that Jeff has (with an excellent cash flow of course). Never too old to start on something new although reading some papers on genetic work left me in the dust with all the new terms I can't even fathom. Way beyond particle physics all the concepts and discussion.

 

Tough position to be in. you want to give attention to the things you have nurtured from inception, plus are required to take on the other projects as well. 1 person can only do so much. Do what you can, give the extra effort when you can and re-evaluate in 60 days. Dont kill yourself, not worth it, unless there is an opportunity to become partner in the business. Everyone needs balance between work and personal life. Otherwise you get burned out and start looking elsewhere. They should know this. I go through spells of being overwhelmed at work, and it usually works itself out after some time. I get frustrated, I vent, and I pull through. This business is very cyclical. Sound slike the company is growing in leaps and bounds. Is there room to take on an assistant PM under your direction? Someone with a good head that is coachable and moldable. They will keep piling it on as long as they see that you are handling it. Not sure if any help, .......

We are hoping to bring in another new mechanical at some point but mainly to help with the engineering side, sort of like I did when I was brought on. We are very cyclical too, so problem is they'll wait too long to get help and we will be out of the busiest part and they'll see that everything maybe was just a little behind and think that's ok and we can handle it still.

Yep...gotta be. Like I said in the first post, we dont do a good job of differenitating Engineers and project managers, and we need to.

 

Apparently engineers and geologists are very similar in the way they operate.

 

Keep your resume current and suck it up until something better comes along.

When opportunity presents itself, move on. If they want you that bad, they’ll pay more to keep you, then you can negotiate a better deal when it comes to tastings, priorities and pay/benefits.

Just my .02

 

Do it now and pay your dues, before you have a family to take up your time. Hard work in the end, will always pay off.
