At 19/hour and no benefits, this company has been:

    1. Getting a bargain for an employee with a 4 year degree.
    2. Taking advantage of you.

I assure you. If you are competent and dependable there are HUNDREDS of jobs near you where you could earn more (even if you are in a podunk town.)

Having said that. If you are happy, the value of that is bigger than you can imagine. I have done ok in life working jobs I hate to provide a nice life for my family. Coming up on 40, I feel stuck. Hard to unring the bell of nice house, new cars, kids always in “cool” clothes. I would love to go back and do something I love but I’d take a HUGE pay cut for at least a few years.

You gotta make a living, but money ain’t a thing if you don’t enjoy what you do.

I feel you, as a Survey Technician my focus has been all construction clients and its led me to wonder how being a construction manager may be. Well here I am with the opportunity... If I may ask, what is your proffession (and salary) vs what you would rather do (and expected salary)

Loyalty to an employer is admirable but loyalty doesn't pay the bills.

Just remember that everyone is replaceable, your employer will survive without you.

BTW - I think you know, you already knew all this. We just helped bring it out of you.
Remember this conversation as you go thru life. With this mantra, you will be able to help yourself, which in urns helps those around you more. Create opportunity, don’t wait for it to show up and ask you to jump on board. Gonna have to Bold and Italic that jammer too. Y’all writing this $hit down, it’s pute gold!! Lol

It's because they dont have to, you are there doing the job. Soon as you say you are leaving they will have a replacement right fast.

    That's fine.
But you can't help others if you dont help yourself first.

That means you've probably been undervalued for a long time, and others are not only noticing but willing to put some skin in the game to get you there. This is a great thing. Embrace it. Run with it.

Qquite possible. When I was hired 3 years ago here, I worked under a guy who left, and basically was his prodigy. They were looking for a replacement for him, but I stepped up instead. Maybe the guys under me will be able to step up some. (No way they could outright do my job. Too big of a skills gap)

I’ve been in manufacturing leadership for about 15 years. With bonuses I make over 100k a year for about the past 5 years. Good benefits. Pace is brutal. Always go go go. Every year being asked to do more/produce more with less resources. It really turns you into a drone. You have to be heartless with people at times to get results or the next guy will if you don’t.

I have a degree in Finance. Never once used it. I would love to get into personal finance assistance. Helping people create budgets, plan futures. Actually help someone. Not interested in being a broker and investing. Again, made some money, not rich, but would really like to “help” someone. Probably start out around 40k a year in something like that and never make much more. I’d have to plan for several years to downsize enough to take that kind of salary drop.

    Good luck.

They may not be able to find someone with your skill set at first but they can probaley find someone to get them by for now or until they find/develop someone, this is what I meant by everyone is replaceable.

Just remember that opportunities to better yourself don't come along very often for most. I would seriously consider taking the new job if it was me.

this is basically what my uncle told me when he lined this up for me. One of the offers I turned down was from a close friend who felt the same. (But I turned my friend down for reasons other than loyalty to my company)

So when you were younger would you have tried a different field early on if it meant financial security you wanted and was of interest to you?

    savage, I like that

This is what has lead me to seriously considering the job. Its the best oppurtinity I've ever had and its basically came knocking on my door with very little effort on my end at all.
