From the photos, looks a long way from shredded.

Not a joke. The truck is only a few months old and it's already wearing the belt fabric. It'll be a while before the strength is compromised, maybe a year, but I'd rather have my 11 year old son riding with a belt that isn't wearing a hole in itself, especially for $36,000.

Not yet. Truck only has 5k on it and it has minor wearing. Maybe a year before it wears a full hole but I'll have it replaced in a month.

I actually seen this a potential problem when I first bought my truck. I just put some black duct tape around the inside of the hinge when I first bought it. Also didn’t want the hinge digging into my seat upholstery

Yeah, not every truck will have the problem. On my driver's side, the metal tab is much tighter against the seat fabric so the belt doesn't slip in. The metal tab isn't tight on the passenger side so the belt slips in there all the time.

Seatbelts are built pretty tough, a little rub mark doesn’t mean it will disintegrate any moment. I doubt it will be worn in a year. I’m not trying to discount your concern, as you have children who’s lives could depend upon their seatbelt. Just saying this isn’t a stage 5 alarm.

Your children and their friends ride in the back seat, you have every right to be concerned for their safety. Maybe absolutely nothing bad will ever happen due to this issue but who here is willing to risk the health and safety of their children hoping nothing happens? Sure it is not worn badly now but in a few years, who knows, and by then the children riding in the back seat will be bigger, heavier, placing more strain on the belts if they are needed for an emergency. It's your truck you do whatever you feel you need to do to keep those in the back seat safe and secure. If others believe your wasting you time, so be it, its your time to waste. I say "Thank You" for pointing this potential problem out.

I will be checking my belts now just to make certain all is well.

Not an issue on my 2 year old doublecab and I have people riding in the back seat daily, the title of this thread is misleading.

Not a rub mark. The top layer of threads are split. I know it will continue to wear at the same rate so no, it's not 5 alarm now but in a few more months, it wouldn't trust it. Like I said though, I'll have it warrantied before then.

The seat belt is probably the toughest part on that truck.

How many people can say they have EVER replaced a seat belt.

Even worn half way through you could hang a silverback gorilla with one.

It's a good idea to replace the belt if your son or other family member uses that seat !!!

Hell I've got to replace my 5 point harness in my race car every 2 years as per NHRA and at $150 new or $100 to recert can get expensive but knowing the belts are good gives you peace of mind

My race car , NHRA requires me to replace my belts every 2 years . They check the belts especially the date cert code everytime I go thru tech inspection

The clips are there for when you fold your rear seat back down, and then up again, they don’t disappear behind the seatback.

Worn seatbelts, are a serious concern.

    Hope this gets resolved.

This must be an isolated issue on the count of:

    1. This is my second 3rd gen Tacoma, no issues
    2. No one else has issues
    3. Those who don't have issues think this is a joke

Go to the dealership and consult with them.

This site cracks me up. Someone has a chip in their paint, take it to the dealer!
Guy has a seatbelt wearing through due to some sharp metal rubbing on it, not a big deal.
