I'm sorry, that's what I meant, any reason to stray from straight up FOX replacements. That's what I figured I'd do.

 

I’m not aware of any aftermarket replacements.

 

I agree with Shane. I run 650 lb/in, 14" long coils and what I feel is a fair amount of weight (ARB bumper, winch with synthetic rope, 3/16" IFS skid, dual batteries) and the ride is fine. I know I wouldn't want to go any higher without putting a lot more weight on, full set of skids, steel winch cable. Even then I'm not sure it would be enough, my front suspension isn't diving or wallowing around as it is.

How many miles between rebuild for
you stage 4.A Fox or King setup @*TRD*? And total cost ? Trying to figure out the price to upkeep my future suspension.

 

50k miles is a good benchmark. The better you care for them the longer they'll last. The more you abuse them the sooner they'll need a rebuild.

We recommend washing the shocks after off-roading, and every time you wash the truck. Leaving dirt and road grime on the shock will shorten their lifespan between rebuilds.

That kit is complete, however some people do opt for extended brake lines, diff drop, and rear carrier bearing shims, but those aren't necessary.

rebuild depends how you run it and other variables.

local shop did a rebuild for me $60/each with them off the truck

 

@*TRD* thanks for keeping the good info flowing here... Can you offer your expert advice?

I'm adding steel bumper and winch soon, about 200lbs total. I currently have the 600# 13 in. springs that came with my 2.5 DSC's and I'm maxed out on my preload at 1.925" of threads showing.

My thoughts are to put on 14" 700# springs for the added weight and to eliminate the preload. Sound about right? Or not? Assuming a revalve would be in order for the spring change but maybe I'm wrong?

 

When you guys are talking about not going over a 2" lift. Is that from the (already lifted) 3rd gen stock height (so three inches total) or is it from the original Tacoma pre-3rd gen height (so 1" over 3rd gen stock)?

 

Yup I’m wondering the same.. if i decide to get a 3rd gen and swapping my suspension wheels and tires..

 

the coilovers are for 0-2" on 3rd gens and 0-3" on 2nd gens because 3rd gens are already 1" taller than 2nd gens.

sort of, but not exactly. If you cycle your suspension at all you will still rub in the same spots, just not as easily.

 

Either a 650 or 700 I still have a stock front end and run a 650, a few pages back they went over that....

I would run the truck a lot so when you change springs you could rebuild/revalve at the same time and you have an idea what valving to go to...

Hopefully you loosened the Allen screw on the adjustment collar on that passenger side or you will be cussing up a storm when you go to turn it because it is all the way in the back.

 

That happened to me. I had a great time finessing that Allen key blind with my cold wet finger tips. That was a freakin cuss tornado for sure.

Sometimes ya gotta learn the hard way.

Haven't installed my 2.5's yet but had accutune try and give me 2 1/2" of front lift....Wondering if I should lower them to 2" to avoid CV problems...?
Anyone with a true 2 1/2" up front lift share there thoughts ..??
