How about 3” is bigger than 2.5”, or a 1/2” can make a world of difference. Or would she rather have 2.5” or 3”.

True. 3” for bragging rights or for hucking the truck......otherwise a 2.5 is plenty good for a lightweight little truck.

 

As awesome as it is to have companies still striving to develop better products for stock geometry suspension systems, I don't know how many people truly need more than non-resie 2.5's, let alone 3.0 w/resies. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see a lot of data on people getting shock fade from their mid travel setup with 2.5's w/resies.

 

Been looking into ADS for a while now and have read way too many pages on this thread. Couple questions:

1) I want to keep factory lift (maybe just add an inch) do I need new UCAs?

2) Do I need 700# for 3rd gen? Already have front skid and plan on getting sliders

3) How much of a difference do clickers make in the rear?

1) yes you can, they come preset with minimal lift

2.)700# is best for 3rd gens because the front end on them is 300# heavier than the 2nd gen (stock). The stock TRD OR coil is 700#. The truck sits best with this springs and stiffness is determined by shock valving, not the spring

3.) clicker resi’s are great if you plan to do various terrain and/or tow

Awesome thanks. I was leaning towards clickers in all 4 corners and doing UCAs/leafs later if I needed to.

 

I would double check and see what the average height is when you remove all preload to meet your minimum lift needs. I think it might be more than 1" with the little additional weight you have up front. That being said I think UCAs are definitely recommended to really get the best use out of the new suspension.

 

I checked when I put mine on and with the 1/4” default preload that ADS defaults the lift is 7/8”-1”

 

Finally got mine out on the trail a few weeks ago. Very happy with them. Will be ordering the rears at tax time!!

 

Just FYI and everyone else in here. Preload should not be measured by the amount of threads showing. Preload should be measured by the length of the spring at full droop.

One of the issues with measuring the threads as preload for ADS specifically is that they have used a few different top cap designs in the past. One that threads into the main shock body and one that threads over.

Apparently Kings do have more travel. From what I’ve seen King extended have just over an inch more than ADS. Not sure how big of a deal that is but ADS does have higher quality parts used. And their stock valving is a bit different. I believe ADS use progressive compression and digressive rebound. Supposedly it makes for better DD that also is good for off-roading.

Ultimately ride quality is determined by spring rate and valving and similar setups on each will give you a similar ride. Main differences is the build quality and color if you aren’t getting custom colors on your Kings. King can make your shocks any color your heart desires.

 

Standard progressive piston for both compression and rebound on mine.

Can't speak to the new gens, but with my coilovers any more downtravel would result in the CV binding.

Build quality? There's going be almost no difference. Pick a color.

 

Gotcha! With all the Black Friday deals I was able to find a deal on some kings.. more travel is definitely appealing!

 

I’m just quoting what I’ve read in this thread. Both vendors that have been here have mentioned the valving. I’ve also been told twice from two different vendors on the phone that ADS used a small flutter stack. However when I took mine apart they did seem to be standard shimming, nothing fancy from what I could tell, bum I’m no expert and it’s the first time I’ve seen inside a shock myself.

As for build quality, it’s what ADS builds their reputation on. They state on their website that they use better higher quality parts. There’s an entire page on their website about it.

EDIT: As for travel Kings seem seem to have more uptravel. Not downtravel.
