Mine slid off when I separated the driveshaft. You’ll need a new stake nut. You have to torque it to some ungodly amount to seat the bearing, loosen it, and tighten it to the proper spec.

do you have the part number for the nut?

 

If there's any rust within 10 feet of the driveshaft you'll need a puller.

 

we don't know what this "rust" is that you speak of on the west coast

actually those that live on or near the beach probably do

 

We have our ways to combat it. Most of which smell horrible (FF) or will coat your entire body with one drop (Anti Sneeze).

Oem lower ball joints are in. Firestone won't align the truck because my steering rack has some play in it - thinking I'll try the new style rack guide, can't afford a new rack right now. Looking for input on how much play you had in the steering rack before replacing that guide

Also anyone know about the rubber type gasket on the top of the trans where the shifter comes out.
Replaced the shifter bushing and the whole top of trans is coated in oil and dirt.

 

Could it be the rack bushings?

 

@JKO1998 It could be, but I'm pretty sure Firestone pulled the driver's side boot back to check the rack itself. I'll get back under the truck this afternoon when I can get somebody to turn the wheel.

Edit: Verified the bushings are good/not the issue at least lol

 

If you need the alignment try taking it to another place for the time being. That's what I did when they said my ITRE were bad

 

If there's play in the rack it might not hold an alignment (from my experience)
