For 3rd gen we have a weird twist lock design. Inside of the collar looks like this (ignore the highlight, that was for something else) ..

Bottom of the stock knob looks like this ...

The only 2nd Gen knob I've seen was leather, and the bottom was compressible so it would take up any gap between knob and collar if you squished it down far enough.

but yeah, I designed the V2 connection because I didn't like the potential for my metal knobs to wear the stock collar out ($85 to replace it). Not really an issue if you leave the knob on, but not everybody will handle it as delicately as it needs to be handled. I've only made 2 V1's since I launched the V2 which is why I have V2 headlining in the OP.

What are the dimensions of the materials you use Rick? I just thought it'd be cool if you could turn one out of Micarta. Or Stab Wood.

I'm gonna have to learn how to make the micarta myself though... the thickest commercially available is 1"...

I use 2.5" diameter bar stock for most knob configurations and 2" for the delrin ring versions, as the diameter where the two materials meet is 1.853". Then there's 1-5/8" Aluminum, as well as same size black and natural delrin for collars and cores (as well as the zero plug for bottom of the hole for the MT's).

Ah, so I need to provide it in rod form... What's the minimal length?

Not necessarily. I do have a 4 jaw chuck that came with my lathe ... so I can grab squares/rectangles when I need to.

For AT knobs, the main body is 2.615" long. MT's are 3.079" long for solid materials and Hybrid MT bodies are 2.675". I generally saw the blanks to 1/4" over all of those dimensions.

I don't mind one offs, but I'd never do full production of wood or anything that throws off fine abrasive particulate. My lathe would see an early death unless I set up a Dexter-esque kill zone around the vital parts every time I did it. Here and there, not much of a concern.

Yikes... Never even considered that. Nevermind then. I did find they make stab wood blanks in a workable size too...

Those would make some sweet looking knobs.

Thanks for the response, had a few other questions..

Hypothetically speaking if one wanted a plain, no exterior engraving, stainless core Delrin-model, that was essentially a smooth delrin-model, could be done in white/natural if the material was bought at an additional cost to me?
-Suppose I didnt care about "cleanliness" and would fully agree to the end product being shipped "dirty" with no complaints on my end, for an additional charge for your effort to make this configuration, would you or could you do that?
-Define "dirty" and if I had the right cleaning solution, could I clean it myself?
-could I be upcharged to produce a white variant, in whatever cleanliness state you could produce without any extra cleaning on your part? I would be willing to clean it myself, and would not complain about whatever I was shipped or received.

Also, in either case, I would be interested in a "V1" model that mounts to the standard MT OEM chrome collar (2017 TRD OR)
-if I purchased this hypothetical Delrin/hybrid OR a Solid-6061 could you make the neck an extra 1/4" taller?

and by no means would a "NO" to any of the above be a deal breaker, because I may just as well get a solid, plain 6061 knob and polish it to a mirror finish, if this "white/dirty white" was a hard "no".
-also, I know little except google searching about "polishing" 6061 aluminum, what would be the best way to polish one to a mirror shine?

    Sure, I'd do it.

With no engraving, the only place dirt might be an issue is on the start and exit of the ID threads of the shell ... which you wouldn't see when it was mounted.

If you pay for enough material so I can make 2 of them (one for backup) I will do it. If both survive without my scrapping one, and somebody expressed interest in buying it I wouldn't charge anything extra. You could also pay for the extra as your own backup if desired.

1/4" taller neck is no problem either ... minor modification.

As for polishing aluminum, check the Amazon links at the bottom of the thread. There are at least 2 examples in this thread from members who used it. One on stainless and the other on aluminum.

Haha, I've been entertaining the idea since I was asked about it earlier in the week via PM.

I didn't plan on doing discounts until my lathe was paid for, but if a bunch of people ordered the same configuration I could make them pretty efficiently. I think that's the only feasible discount option at this time.

I need to buy a deckel style grinder for my diminishing amount of engraving tools, so keeping away from stainless/Ti for a while would really help me out on that front.
