That's about the same as I have, good to know. Can probably slide a couple sheets of paper between the snorkel and the door when it passes underneath it

It's definitely in the a-pillar whatever it is, I got an L - shaped ratcheting screwdriver that I'm going to use to get a better angle on the mounting screws for the bracket and that should get rid of any play that's left there.

Thanks . I was wondering how it held up. I'm not super excited about drilling holes in my a piler. It didn't work out so well for me before. But I have the rivnut tool coming.

I used the supplied rivets but it does seem pretty darn permanent lol. Self tapping screws may have been a better option as far as that goes, the rivets are definitely never coming out. On the plus side, they hold really well.

For what it's worth, I tried the double sided 3M mounting tape that's supposed to hold 10lbs+ but it didn't work well at all, the snorkel sort of wants to pull away from the a-pillar a bit which pulled the tape off. Screws or rivets is the way to go IMO

The ARB has been install many times without the use of 3m tape. Don't complicate it more than it is.

none is require or necessary :)

The ARB has also been installed by others with double side mounting tape or velcro to the a-pillar. Not "complicating" anything, just saying in my experience with the mounting tape I tried, it didn't work.

Heavy duty velcro might, there's talk about others using that in the 2nd gen snorkel thread.

Personally I wouldn't want to risk having it come loose either bouncing around offroad or at highway speeds but that's just me. I understand the issue of not wanting to drill the a-pillar that some people have but it's a small price to pay IMO. If I had a newer truck I'm sure I'd feel differently about it.

Then again I'm one of the few on here that's still paying off a 1st gen so maybe I should be more concerned, lol

Not all 3M double sided VHB tape is the same.

I have a roll of this stuff at home https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company...hicle-Tape-CV62F/?N=5002385+3291242840&rt=rud

For a panel with a lot of taped surface one of the downsides is you'll need to destroy the panel to get it off. Not sure how it would work for a small area like a snorkel mount though.

As for complication I would think this makes it far less complicated than rivets...I have a hydraulic pneumatic rivet gun that I've used a lot. VHB tape is far less complicated than rivets.

yeah I agree it's less complicated than the rivets...the rivets really do work well as far as holding that bracket nice and firm to the a-pillar but rivets are definitely more of a permanent way to attach than tape/velcro, or screws even.

I just used a cheap $5 Harbor Freight hand-squeeze rivet gun but it took some effort to pinch off those rivets with it.

Do as you guys wish. I’ve used 3M tape on many applications. However those applications, the tape had a large smooth surface and wasn’t expose to the elements. On the snorkel, next to the pillar area is not smooth because you have the window gasket there. It will be expose to the elements as well, cold, heat, dirt etc will wear it down and it will lose its contact. Once that happens you have to take it off which can be a pain, you might need a heat gun and it might leave marks on your pillar anyway. Again no need to over think this just drill the holes. If you decided to get the snorkel you accepted that holes will have to be drilled :)

My hydraulic pneumatic rivet gun is amazing. I used it for my sleeping platform. I went a little crazy and put about 450 rivets into it.
    It's also harbor freight...$30!

All good points for sure. Now that you mention it that stuff might not be designed for the elements, especially UV. Even if it only gets a little sun it might be enough to damage it.
As you said rivets and screws are tried and proven.

I agree with you on that, I haven't had good luck with tape or velcro lasting very long on my truck. The Softtopper I used to have utilized velcro for the back flap on the tail gate, and it stopped holding well after a few months to where it didn't stick at all. And getting it off the truck without damaging the paint was impossible...so might as well just drill and mount the way it was intended via rivets/screws instead

Great for my wood floors but will mess up your pillar anyways :)

So I had time to inspect my truck today after the trail run last week. Snorkel is on tight still. Wiggle and shook the whole truck with it. Keep in mind I still haven’t screw the top bolt in the fender. Also got a chance to put on the missing clips to the fender. While the fender was off I inspect the rubber and plastic intake tub. Nothing was sucked in or collapse. No screws were lose either. I inspected the air filter and it looks the same before last weeks trail run. Photo will show air filter with two trail runs, one run without the snorkel on and one with a snorkel. Very heavy dust on the last run because there was at least 10+ Tacos.

So...who is going to be the first to drill out drain holes for water? lol

Not like we get any rain down here in SoCal so I figure I'd let someone else be the guinea pig on whether or not that's needed

Drill drain holes where? Doing it in the airbox would defeat the purpose of the snorkle :luvya:
