    can't blame long travel for him not having a CV, I'm not watching a 20 min video so maybe I'm missing details.

    He'd be in the same predicament even if he was standard travel, just slightly less expensive.

    I think the biggest argument for staying with stock length CVs is parts availability. Granted, yes, having spare CVs on hand would have been the smart thing to do since they are custom but worst case scenario, you break all your spares too. Then you have to rely on a parts store to have it, which most likely they would.

    Long travel is still awesome though and I envy those who have it, just saying. But in the end, you got to pay to play and its going to cost more to run it.

    No. He could have just bought a replacement if it was stock travel. He needed the longer shaft off the long travel and the knuckle off the stock one.

    he was headed home, he could've pulled the CV apart and rode with one end in the Diff to hold oil in there and without the end going into the spindle.

    I'm unsure of how easily it is to get our CVs since I've never called a dealer or Oreilly's, I do see what you're saying, but this isn't a LT fault.

    This is an unprepared fault.

    Not sure how well that would work. CVs are built to work with both ends supported. Even disassembled, having the "plug" in the diff would cause an imbalance and most likely fail going down the road at 70mph. Then you've got a busted front diff due to oil starvation. Max had a long trip home, I think 1000 miles or so, and a cobbled together truck wasn't really an option.

    CVs are readily available at most parts houses. I was able to buy and pickup a replacement same day.

    The issue Max ran in to was that the extended axles had a different spline count than the non-OE replacement CVs found at the parts houses. So even with parts available for him to rebuild his CV, it wouldn't work due to the slight differences.

    Wouldn't have been an issue if A) he had a spare extended length CV or B) didn't have LT in the first place.

    the snap ring "should" hold that CV plug in there, I know it was a damn pain to get my OEM axle out of the diff. I'm not going to argue if it would work, hope to never have to do this.

    The one I changed out pretty much fell out. Not to mention unnecessary wear on your needle bearings. But it could be a potential solution if you were in a pinch. Not sure I could trust it for 1000 miles though. I'd probably just pull both CVs, drain my diff fluid and tape up the ends if I had to go that far. Haha.

    Obviously a lot to be said for just having stock CV setup. That said aside from Scotty's mishap no one else broke anything while we were at Moab and we pulled off a major repair job on Brian's U-joints in a parking lot. Seeing him hanging on that ledge he was going to push up did not look like a good idea. While I like the idea of a challenge to push the truck over a bigger obstacle you gotta balance that thought of what you gotta deal with if you break something. I prefer a good spotter that makes sure I am going to get where I am going with no repairs necessary (so says low, low).

    yeah and my mishap was more like "how tf did that happen" lol. nobody carries spare spider gears around with them, and now that I have a locker, even disengaged, that should never happen again.

    He should not have went without spares if it is a custom part.
    He could have pulled both CVs to get home and got a replacement when he got home.
    This is why I am glad to have locking hubs.
