I’ve given up my burner stove and use only a Skottle. Very versatile, easy clean up is my favorite aspect. When done cooking (anything & everything) I pour maybe 2-3 cups of water in it , bring to boil , brush the inside , dump n done. Stowe’s away with a small footprint.
I Love that thing !
Breakfast , spaghetti, burgers , steaks , rice , steamed vegetables, toast , you name it.

 

What’s a skottle? Everything I find on google looks like a wok

 

It's a WOK but has a burner underneath and a tripod it sits on, it's basically a really stupid way to burn yourself

 

What’re you supposed to cook with when using a wok? A fire?

We usually just through it on the campchef haha.

Yeah it does look like a Wok but works great. I was skeptical at first but ran into somebody that was using one. I was impressed and tried it.
Not going back.

Thats we do it too, but this was a gift, might as well use it, and campers have more storage than our trucks so might as well

 

What I like about is that you cook in the middle then push say home fries out to the edge where it’s not so hot. The home fries stay warm while you cook some meat , then the eggs. Really efficient and only one item to wash with no soap.

 

It just seems like it’s be big and annoying to haul around.

But what diameter is the wok? Ours is like 2 feet, which would be annoying for sure

 

Well for me , I found it to be easier to store than my previous Coleman camp stove (2 burner)
I have the bag which holds the skottle , steaming lid and gas bottle.
The legs go in a separate bag .
It’s easy to move around where the stove needed a specific place to set it up.

I bought the steaming lid at Wally World for like $6

 

Just getcha an old disc from a farmer, and weld the holes up and put handles on it.

You guys might actually benefit from something like this if you foreswore liquid meals like soups, cause then you wouldn't have to pack the Coleman at all

 

That's true, I know I could make my kitchen crate way more efficient. But I don't have any woodworking skills at all so it'll probably stay messy until I decide to buy a better organizer.

 

I'm thinking of downsizing to backpacking modular system.

 

If I werE looking into cooking set ups and had a little bit of money I could put into one I’d look at jetboil basecamp systems, kinda spendy but quality and you can really beat them for the sizes. That I know about anyway.

And I’m sure there’s some knock off somewhere for cheaper.

 

Yeah been eyeing that. Be super handy.

The base camp setup would allow you to use the same pans I already do. But weigh less and take up less space.

cool though. Not sure it would last long in the back of the truck. I prefer my military box over that as it interlocks with the others and protects everything and is fully water proof.
