Anyone try the low range steering rack kit? Tie rods and bushings make the $500 bullet a little easier to swallow. Guessing it falls under the standard opinions on rebuilt parts though

I suggest checking the bearings in that install kit. I bought from them and found one of the pinion bearings to be a Timken instead of a Koyo. I was under the gun and still sent it all out to be installed

I don't know the difference between the 2 brands, are the Timken lower quality?
and looks like I have 2 Timken bearings and the rest are Koyos

Timken is a good brand just like Koyo. No need to worry there.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
And Timken oil seals are made by National Oil Seal and typically install much easier than other brands which is nice.

He’s talking about how my 5-lug has $2,000 of CHP penalties and DMV backfees on the original California plates. I registered it in Vermont instead.

And the bedsides are flappy because I drilled out all the spotwelds so I could swap them to a new bed.

Hazzard Fraught 8" puller was required for mine. If the previous owner hadnt had my truck coated, it wouldve gotten a new frame by now judging by the condition of other parts when I got it.

East coast is weird. My truck is from Roanoke and was rusty. My dads 92 pickup was from rural NC maybe 2 hours south of Roanoke, and you can still see the serial numbers on the frame still. Never been coated, just washed off at the end of winter.

Anyone pondered putting a tundra steering rack in a 1st gen? Solo makes a kit for 2nd gens. Curious how different it could be from ours.

After working in Industrial Mainteneace, Ive realised there is no "best" brand of bearing. They will all fail and no brand in particular wears out any faster than the rest. These days they're almost all China made even if the names Koyo, FAG, Timken, BL,etc. If its carried by your local industrial supply, its a good bearing, and most seem to carry every brand out there.

    Why? Mine aren't..

Wont fit and is basically the same rack just wider. So not worth it unlike the 2nd gen tundra swap to 2nd gen taco.
