TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

I ran a snorkel and supercharger on my 1st gen (1998) for lots of years with no ill effects at all. I was running the factory airbox and the supra N/A MAF, MaxxAutowerks injectors, Apexi S-AFC, JBA headers, Borla cat back, and a 8.5lb pulley. Truck ran great! Just kept snapping front axle shafts and was just a x-cab so it had to go when we had our second child. Had a few other little gadgets under the hood too, some split second stuff. Don't remember it all anymore. It was built off of following Gadgets 4Runner build from way back before URD.

 

Have you seen my youtube video of before the Ucon? I was in the high 7's and low 8's for my AFR. Cats have been gone for a long time and I changed my oil every 3K. And I could feel the power difference immediately after the Ucon.

 

I was wondering the same thing......I got those shorties too. I thought that if my high flow cats go at some point just get them cut off and get pipes welded in thier place.

 

If you can get away with it, URD long tubes is the way to go. I love em

 

Just make sure to have some form of sedation when they're done.

 

Link to the sensor or cats? I'm 1st gen so they're different for me but I ended up going with Magnaflows...they make a CARB certified cat for 1st gens that's luckily way cheaper than OEM

 

Sensor, but I didn’t pay attention to the gen difference. Not sure if the sensors are the same for 1st and 2nd gens

 

They're most likely different, I remember looking pretty closely at part numbers and applications and mine were for up to 04 Tacos. The new sensor did the trick for me, though I have heard some say that p0136 can also indicate trouble with the cats but I think that usually results in a p0420 code as well. That's the one I had when my cat went out anyhow

That's the catch 22 ... run lightweight skinnies for gofast, or stick with the fat knobbies cause, well, it's a truck.

 

I gave up on "clean" long ago and settle now for "not toooooo dirty"

 

No P0420....yet anyway haha. Maybe I’ll just do sensors first, both banks, and go from there. The truck has about 90k miles on it

 

1 flash = stage 1 tune
2 flashes = stage 2 tune = no cats
3 flashes = stage 3 tune = 7th injector

Not happy to hear that you had to get rid of your xtra cab for a baby though...my wife wants to try for our first soon and I'm dreading what that might mean for my truck lol. Gonna have to find the world's smallest car seat....fortunately my wife is really small.

 

Just less weight. Countersteer x's gotta weigh so much less than 20's with m/t.

 

Delete front air bag, car seat goes in the front seat, wife sits in the back! Lol

 

I dont remember if you guys have o2 sims or not. UCON or not but for @Scooter14 sell the shorties and get URD. You will thank me when you install and go rather than fitting cats or an extension, then worrying how to get it lined up properly all while welding a flange and supports from trans to flange.

@JuanitoBunito, the same may apply to you.

Regardless with no front cats you will need UCON, or o2sim, or standalone to remedy a p0420 and p0430 cel.

Pablo at Tandem in Ft Worth claims he can build some stand-off tubes for the O2 sensor with small holes in them to where the sensor sees enough exhaust to adjust the computer, but not enough to throw a code and pass emissions. I still have cats, but I’ve thought about trying it.

 

I'd like to see a diagram of that.
