    Work in progress...
    It is
The tire size will not change the cv angles. I was in the same boat when I put on my little lift kit. I decided to go with the 265/70 17's this time around. I am really happy with this set up, but to each their own. I was over in Phoenix a couple of weeks ago and I seen my first "lowered" "slammed" what ever Ya call it 3rd gen Tacoma. The guy was real proud of it and it looked really sharp to me also. He probably had way more money in lowering that truck 3 inches that I had in lifting mine 3inches. It all depends Ya know, it is your hard earned dollar and ain't nobody gonna love, or hate, it the way you do.

-My 285/70/17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers weigh the same as 255/80/17s BFG KM2s. Both are 57 pounds each.
-My MPGs were not "destroyed" by 285s. I may have dropped .2-4 mpg going to 285s from 255s because they are wider and have more rolling resistance. With my lift, bumper, sliders and 285s I am averaging 17.75mpg.
-My performance has not been impacted.
    -Size. Uh okay?
-I don't play on ice. I go snow wheeling, where 285s are more beneficial than 255s because in deep snow you air down and float on top of it rather than cut through it with the pizza cutters.

That being said, I am eventually going to 35s, where I'll opt for a narrower size because 11.5 is as wide as I need to go for fitment.

2-4 mpg loss is a lot.

If your going to compare tire weights they should be the same tire...

This is on 87 octane gas. Add in the tire size difference and its 17.17 mpg. When I switch to 91 octane i get 16.75mpg, with a tire correction to 17.75mpg.

Sorry to burst your bubble. :luvya:

They're not impressive. I'm just proving you wrong. When you said no one gets above 15mpg with 285s lol.

I see your point. Do you commute with your rig or is it only a weekend/offroad vehicle

Sure lets compare the Nitto ridge grapplers in 255/80/17 (33.3" vs 32.76") (since they don't make 255/75/17). They're 54 pounds compared to 57 pounds. A whopping 3 pounds heavier.

I bought my 285s for function and everyday use since they're superior to 255s in every way driving on the street. 255s were great off road, but they sucked on the road. You don't see sports cars running tall skinny tires do you?

I commute daily. The 255s I had on before were arguably better in the dirt than my 285s. But they were terrible on the street and especially in the rain.

Acceleration is a little slower. People reporting huge MPG losses also need to realize the truck thinks it's going 7% slower than it actually is, and thus your mpg is reporting 7% lower than actual. My mpg dropped by around 1. The big bonus is the truck handles better on my 285 k02s. More grip, they're stiffer, and much wider. It's better.

Go 305s everyone has 285s. And you have the width of 35s. And totally worth it!! If I got 285s I would have always wondered what 305s would have been. That’s just me and in sand they are awesome and at 12psi they float over rocks !
