Plus, I thought even in previous gen's, the manual suggest not to ENGAGE 4wd above 40-50mph. Using it above that is just fine.

What I did...I got out of bed, hopped in the truck & found an empty parking lot to do some donuts.

All seriousness though, I leave it in 2wd (no weight in the bed) and only use 4wd if I need it.

Beats me, I don't have one or know about it, that's why I don't post there. My manual says 62 MPH, or 100km/h. Page 248 in case anyone else wants to read up on it.

Read the sticker on the visor. I'm guessing that's why they put it there.

Pg 300. Again, this is just to engage 4WD. Does not mean that's the top speed limit when using 4WD.

    Taco4wd.jpg

Previous gens, especially with the manual J-shift, it was something like 40MPH.

Agreed completely. My thought is if you need 4wd, you shouldn't be doing anything close to 60, or 50, or whatever anyways. On the road for wintery conditions of course.

For the record, i'm just clarifying what the max speed is you can switch to 4wd per the manual.

If roads are slick enough for me to engage 4hi then I don’t like to drive over 50mph (probably lower). Totally subjective. If one rear wheel spins and has me loose control for which I need to engage 4hi, then going over 50mph (subjective again) is going to be tough to stop (regardless of 2wd ve 4wd). I treat my AWD Subaru the same way. Learned my lesson several years ago when I went into a 760 spin on an old Subaru going over 60mph. This road was completely iced. I switch off 4hi in town when I see mostly dry roads. I’m not fond of the bouncing caused by 4hi on dry pavement turns. Stay warm OP.

Driving on a partially covered highway at hwy speeds is not an issue with 4wd hi, turning tight turns is on dry pavement. The wheels need to slip otherwise it binds the transfer case and can cause catastrophic failure. With that said, use it sparingly and learn how to drive in snow. 4wd just gives most people a false sense of security and they thin they can drive a million miles an hour. One has to remember that you are contacting the road with 4 hockey pucks.

What are people "saving their 4wd for? If its slippery conditions use it it's why you have it. If you all of a sudden realize you need it that means you've had some slippage. Why risk slipping into a ditch when you can lessen the risk by just engaging 4wd.

    Fixed it for you.
Get winters. Use 4wd if you feel like it, relax and enjoy the drive.

Yup, way too many people get so confident driving AWD/4WD vehicles in snow.

Although I do drive at "highway speeds" with the 4WD engaged several times, every winter. After the plows have gone through, there is still some slush and/or snow still coming down. I leave it in 4WD and feel safe going usually around 60mph on the freeway.

The 4WD system is capable of going freeway speeds, which was the original point I was trying to make.

Put the truck in 4hi and drive. If you need to turn tight, like into a parking spot, just turn it off first. Nothing wrong with leaving 4hi engaged and driving at highway speeds even if the road has sections of bare pavement. My truck stays in 4hi for half the year.

This thread started off being about " do I" or don't I" use 4H at highway speeds.
    The ultimate answer is NO.
I don't care about all of your expert advice, 4H causes more collisions because the front brakes are now under added load, and next thing you know
    the ABS comes on.
Many parts of Canada have made it law to install winter I SAID WINTER tires before December first.
    There is a reason. Weather you're driving a 4x4 or not...don't matter.
In 100000 miles you're gonna go through 2 sets of tires anyways, might as well get ICE/SNOW tires ...and do the same 100000 anyways.
Difference being you'll be properly equiped for snow or ice.

I love to read the BS some people write here sometimes.
If its an opinion, ok so be it, but shut the "F" up if you don't live north of Ohio.

    I rest my case.
