I once heard you can carry a baseball bat in your TACOMA legally if you have a baseball or baseball glove as well,not totally for sure though!!

The most sensible solution to the problem would be a national and states reciprocal carry law. Unfortunately I doubt that I'll see it in my lifetime. The next best solution is to get the hell out states like Massachusetts and California and move to a more 2nd Amendment friendly state.
Maybe there's hope, Massachusetts now allows stun guns to be carried by LTC/CCW permit holders. Never thought I'd ever see that happen. Personal protection of one's self or family shouldn't be reserved just for the rich, the politically connected.........., OR Hollywood!

 

Maybe if I machined and installed some 2" diameter lug nuts for my Taco I could pull that off. Wonder what they'd look like on the wife's Subaru?

 

If you had a walker or wheelchair you might have trouble pulling that off. A foot of snow on the ground would be problematic as well. You'd probably have better luck carrying an axe, just be sure to strike with the blunt end.

Pencils break off, tactical pens don't! But I'll stick with my Walther where I can carry legally. Where I can't I'll spin the wheel with the pen, stun gun, mace or my 4D Maglite. When it comes down to you and yours or them you do whatever it takes and worry about the consequences later!

 

I really like brass knuckles...but those are illegal in my state

Just came across this sweet and low cost work-around for a remote starter on a manual transmission. I have a remote starter on my 03, and you have to go through this annoying sequence every time you get out where the engine stays running until you are out of the car and close the door. Once you close it, you can't open it to grab something in the truck as it will deactivate the remote starter and you'd have to do the sequence again to prep it. I find it so annoying that I barely ever use it, unless I know it's going to be reaaaaally cold when I want to drive next.

In the video I found, he essentially uses a system that uses a pair of magnetic sensors attached under the shift boot, that can detect when the stick is in neutral and only allow the remote starter to work in that position. If in gear, the sensors can detect it's in gear and not allow the remote starter to work. No more annoying sequence to go through each time you get out, and it also means if you forget something in the car, you can go and grab it without it deactivating the remote start sequence.

Yeah but the whole point of that is so that the truck KNOWS it’s in neutral rather than THINKS it’s in neutral. That way you don’t accidentally start the truck in gear - because it’s easy for somebody to knock it into gear, even if that person’s not you.

Did you watch the video? It won't start if its in gear (including accidentally being knocked into gear as you described)

I'm wondering if this would affect the clutch start cancel feature even when not using the remote starter though, for when you start the engine in 1st gear. Though my guess is having the key in the ignition overrides the remote start mechanism so you could still start in 1st with clutch start cancel

This system knowns, not thinks, that your truck is in gear as much as the regular sequence would. The chances of it going wrong are about as low as going through the regular sequence, climbing through the window to put it in gear without opening the door to trip the system, climbing back out the window and then starting it in gear remotely. If installed properly with strong adhesive, I can't see how this could go wrong. If you scotch tape the sensors on, then sure, I could see it going wrong, but then you'd deserve it going wrong if you did that.

 

I cannot ever remember starting a manual transmission without giving the sifter a jiggle before and after I press the clutch in. Ever.
