Reading as much as I can before I lift my truck am I coming to the right conclusion that whatever ammount you lift the front of your truck with a spacer lift you are losing that much in suspension travel?

This also goes for using the Bilstein 5100's?

    Thanks.

You loose that amount in down travel. 3" lift = 3" less down travel you will have.

What chris said pertains to the front suspension - as that's the biggest limitation on these trucks. IFS

The rear is a whole different ballgame. Lifting the rear should give you more suspension travel, however, that'll depend on how you lift it.

That is correct with a spacer lift. The question is though, do the 5100s allow more droop than the stock shock? The stock shocks top out before the ball joints bind so if the 5100s allow more droop than the stock shock, which would depend on what height they are set at, then you may not lose any or could gain a small amount. I have 5100s but honestly don't know the answer, I didn't cycle the front before I put the springs on. Either way it's a cheap front setup (5100s are much better than spacer though), and it is a temporary setup for me until I can pull the trigger on some coilovers.

5100's have the same travel as the stock shocks. The only shocks that are a direct replacment, other than coilovers, that have a longer stroke than stock are the OME's. :)

If I'm wrong I would like to see proof, cause I don't wanna be spreadin the wrong info, but I have heard from a Bilstein tech that the 5100s travel more than the stock trd shocks.

I sent an e-mail to Bilstein asking about them. I considered them before I went with OME's. I was looking for a shock with more stroke, and a bit longer travel. The response I received from Bilstien said that the 5100 front shocks were a direct replacement for the OEM, and they had the same stroke, and travel. They said they had a larger diameter for better cooling, and some other stuff I dont remember off hand.

Ok everyone we need to stop and think a min , if you lift the front with new coilovers or spacers you are changing the angles of all the ball joints and that WILL shorten the life and the travel of your front-end , So the best lift that I can see for the money would be camburg , do to the fact that you might not even have to have an alignment. Just my opinion , but I have talked with 4-5 suspen companies . and they agree , so take it for what its worth...

You need an alignment after any lift.

anytime suspension geometry is changed an alignment will be required.
In lifting a truck you lose camber and you're wheels will look something like this....

If yours was "Perfect" after a suspension swap, then you didnt lift it, or it was screwed up before you did the lift, and the lift brought it back into alignment.

+1- Mine DROVE fine- No wandering at all...but at anything more than 1/4 turn of the wheel over 5 mph the tires were scrubbing/squealing something horrible...

You might not have noticed the issues- but they were there. Or like Chris said-It was off before and the lift managed to be the right thing to fix it.
