I'll try it out when I have a chance to install it, and I'll let you know how it is... and if you don't hear back, I've been run over by accidentally remote starting my truck in gear while working underneath it because the mod didn't work properly.

    Hahahah deal

I’m gonna sit and think about this one for sure. I’m getting the N2 remote starter from Jimmy in a couple weeks when he’s got it all set. I actually just sent him a link to your post too so he can check it out.

Definitely looking forward to hearing how it works for you. I had a remote start on my MT Subaru Impreza and it wasn’t super annoying to have to do the “reservation mode” thing but I could definitely live without it.

It's not so much the sequence that annoys me, it's more the fact that if you go in the truck to get something, it deactivates it (though I completely understand why from a safety standpoint). Since I use mine as a work truck, I'm constantly in and out of the truck to grab tools, so since I do this, I can't really just remote start after doing so. Ex. if I'm at home, sometimes I'l grab a tool from my truck to fix something around the house, and then when I go to start in the morning to go to work, it doesn't allow it. It doesn't make sense for me to hop in after grabbing the tool, start the truck for a few seconds and go through the sequence just so I can remote start in the morning. :frusty:

I may be wrong but I don’t think that vehicle remote starter ever had reservation mode to begin with, that’s a standard non-pro installer DIY’er that added what a professional installer is supposed to do when installing a remote starter on a MT vehicle. If he had reservation mode, why didn’t he mention this bypasses it and open a door? He put his foot on the brake and shifted into gear after starting it, hey doesn’t even have key take over! He essentially added a kill switch to interrupt the initializtion circuit of the remote starter. Our vehicles already have that. However, if you don’t want reservation mode, you’d have to source a remote starter that is “universal” and typically those come with non-plug n play harnesses and it’s up to the pro, or the DIY’er to install all the saftey measures. However a factory that provides a plug n play solution like I do would never oblige to that because it leaves ownership, liability and risk on the installer, and a manufacturer nowadays will NOT take that risk of “I promise to not bypass saftey or trick the vehicle in anyway” because at the end of the day, they sold it. That means they would still bear responsibility on a lawsuit. Remote starters that are plug n play or some that are programmed for manual, DONT give you the option to deactivate reservation mode, it runs in the firmware. Nowadays, the NHTSA is strict on rules that govern these devices, I wouldn’t even be able to sell it in the US if it didn’t meet saftey standards or pass validation.

Also, if it were a late model vehicle per the posted YouTube video, the alarm would’ve sounded off with him merely sitting on the drivers seat as the air bag sensor would detect his weight, but no key, that’s a no no. His panic horn would’ve been blaring. Also, to show it’s an older vehicle, he didn’t even have sensors in the gear positions, we do. We also have a neutral position switch.

This is not a video to show you how to by pass reservation mode. This is an old hoopty with old remote starter like they were back in the 90s and early 2000s before there were shifter position switches. So in short, you’re going to add a switch where one already exists, but do nothing to bypass reservation or ready mode on a remote starter that requires it.

I'm about 1000% sure my 97 Tacoma doesn't have a gear position sensors.

Oops thought it was 3rd gen, pretty sure you don’t have a plug n play option either. Do you have a remote starter on your 97 currently with reservation mode?because if you did, the installer would’ve had to have that position sensor put in because the starter would be looking for it. That means no reservation mode if you do...

I did to. Then I had to tear it off and redo it. The first time I had it going around the bar and my leg slid on it and tore the shit out of my leg. So I redid it to just the top of the slider. I am short and with a lift and tires I need to use the slider to get in and out.

Those links are almost 11 years old at this point so it's not surprising that they don't work. Here is a link from post #1 of this thread that explains it:

Adapt as needed for your 3rd Gen.

I am trying to have power in my ”cig plug” 12v when the it's off. Not sure if it matters that it's a push button. I want power when it's not running so I can leave my fire lights on instead of leaving the truck on. My old truck had it set up if the battery dies I just get jumped after the call lol. It is good to have.
