Chrome-tanned leather vs. Nomex vs. Kevlar vs. ????.

Im trying to find out which of these is the ebst for abrasion resistance, tensile strength and tearing resistance? I can get Kevlar in .0625 and .125" thickness. the aramid Nomex in .05 and .125" or the chrome-tanned leather in 5/64" 1/8" or 3/16". Im looking for a fabric that is resistant to flying pebbles, branches and thorns but also resistant to the heat of a hot florida summer day and heat off the engine. Leather heat tolerance is 200*F and the Nomex and Kevlar are 465"F tolerant.

ANyone with knowledge on these fabrics or an even better fabric let me know. It has to be a felixble and bendable material.

Hmmm I just started looking at rubber as well. many types. would be better for rock deflection.

Im trying to find a material that i can use to cover and sheild my body panels and paint while trail riding. I want to magentize it to the body panels so it can't be too heavy. maximum weight magnets ive found at a good price is something like 36lbs per feet but i can get up to 72lb per feet if rubber is that much better it'll just cost me.

 

i say kevlar, ive had nomex gloves that couldn't even last one field problem, granted they were pilot nomex gloves but hey, that's what the army issued me. leather will probally not take the high temps you are talking about, it would crack and fall apart

your idea as explained will probably not work. regardless of the strength of magnet, your sheet(s) of xxxxxxx material will catch the wind, branch, rock, etc and get ripped off in short order.

you may want to look into the vinyl wraps. they are designed to do what you are planning with this project.

 

I have what I beleive is kevlar on the inside of my motorcycle jeans. It's like a yellow cloth like material but it looks like it'll fray easily to something like thorns.

Bigburitto, you really think it won't hold in place? Most of the hweeling i tend to see is mainly sub 25mph and i wouldn't be rubbing right up on trees or rocks with it, just want it to serve as a barrier between pebbles, palm tree branches, dead tree branchs. maybe pine trees at the most but that would be the maximum, and rarely

 

how about thick plastic sheeting cut to fit, magnets placed on it and then bed liner sprayed over it?

 

There's probably a good reason you don't see any trucks with leather or kevlar magnetted to the doors.

Check this out. A little pricey but you could probably buy it somewhere else for cheaper/ different colors. This will give you the protection, isn't permanent, but won't come off too easily.

Alternately if a rare pine branch is the worst you anticipate, you don't need to worry much about protecting the paint.

 

yeah true. i figured no one thought of it before me The thing i liked about the magnet idea was the ability to take them off and on whenever i wanted to go wheeling in a matter of minutes.
