What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Ironically one of the most overlooked things for people doing mods as it is probably the most dangerous and highest probability of failing and burning the truck to the ground..

 

yup, many years ago an ex g/f of mine had a Chevy Cavalier that caught fire on her and burned to the ground because of an aftermarket stereo a friend of her's installed.

Shortly after I bought my truck, the wiring to the electric fans that the PO installed started smoking under the hood while I was stopped at a light. Luckily it wasn't bad and I was able to contain it before it became a fire.

 

Definitely. Thought I’d finally take the time to clean it all up and wrap it in wire loom.

 

I hate this charcoal canister. It takes up so much room. Wonder if it’s possible to convert to the 2001-2004 style under the bed.

 

We almost had an AEV built truck burn down at camp last spring due to wiring, luckily we had a SITKA coat to knock the flames down.

It’s supposed to snow here on Saturday, hopefully it’ll be a good timE.

 

Repainted frame today due to truck being surrounded by salt 24/7 in the middle of the pacific. Hope alls good out there boys

Never understood why people do that?

 

It's usually 2002-2004 that moved it to under the bed. You will need/want a 02-04 fuel tank as it has a different layout than older and all underhood valves and wiring changes. I did it on my 01/02 DCLB stretch and used the 02 evap and had to rewire and plumb it to the 01 chassis/engine harness.

 

So you did relocate the canister? How hard was it?

 

Me too. Not like anyone can easily look up a plate to get the registered address. But they do it on TV & IG so.....

I still want your old tank. Need to grab that from you sometime.

Ironically, we later models still have all the evap ports in that spot under the hood. No room either way.

Changed the fluids in the 4Runner and Taco.

Doing everything in the 4Runner since I don't really know it's history and everything looks reasonably good so far. Only ran into a couple issues - the front diff drain is a 12mm instead of 10mm, so I need to go get one of those. And I filled the tcase with MT-90 by accident so decided to refill.

Taco was interesting. Changed the tcase (first time I've done it) and holy smokes - looked like mud coming out of there. No metal, but clearly needed a changing. Looked as if the plugs had never been touched.

Changed the transmission (MT) to MT-90 (first time I've done it as well) and it looked a lot better from a color perspective - dark amber, but still amber. There were a few really small metal flecks in it - seemed to be copper in color, but that could have been the amber oil on them (last two pics). Issue? @Speedytech7

That's very little glitter, how's the glitter in the coffee filters those tell the real story

 

Coffee filter for the tcase was glitter free. Filter for the transmission is still draining the last little bit, but so far also looks to have very little.

Definitely no chunks of anything in either one.
