Having seen a friend with a jeep commander having to get an engine replaced because he ran it through a flooded road at speed convinced me to find a better place than the fender for an intake inlet

Yea, that looks a lot less abusive than drilling large holes in a perfectly good fender. How does something like this work if you have a Mass Airflow Sensor? How is the noise? I have an open K&N under the hood now and that bitch is deafening at WOT!

My tire just kicked up enough water to get sucked into the intake and fill one cycl. and that's all she wrote.

MAF on the V6 Tacomas is in between the air filter and throttle body so it shouldn't affect that.

To be honest I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. I've been through my fair share of deeper puddles and stream/river crossings and just got lucky I guess.

Yea but it looks like he is going from the cowl right into the throttle body. Unless the MAS is under the intake tube and we just can't see it. Or is the tube going from the cowl into the filter? I need a bigger picture. :D

I circled the MAF in the pic below. In the pic of the cowl snorkel mod it looks like the factory airbox is in the same position just with a 90 degree bend toward the cowl so the MAF doesn't move at all.

Ok yea, that would definitely work for him.

Not so much for me. I circled mine in yellow.

Unless there is a way to turn it at that connection to the air box and go into the cowl straight back there. :notsure:

    I guess anything is possible.

From a few posts up, I didn't have to worry about the MAF sensor. All i had to do was add an elbow and a tube. Elbow attaches to the filter box. Extremely cheap and easy mod on a second gen.

I have a AEM Dryflow filter, it's not much louder than stock and only when you really hammer it.

Yep, factory air box remains unchanged as well as the MAF

I think you're sol. Besides from needing to relocate the MAF, that air filter is in the wrong place.

I suppose you could build a box around the filter and run a tube to the cowl. That would leave both the filter and MAF in the stock location but add a couple extra feet of tubing under the hood.

I had one just like that in the Tundra, that actually sealed so so against the hood and breath behind the headlights. Not perfect unless you really try to seal it from engine heat.

And they are loud! It reminds me of an old 750 Holley carbuerator on acceleration

No one here knows what this is. I still have a few of my old carbs laying around. I should probably take inventory at some point and sell them lol

I'm doing a bit of an experiment since I noticed that uploading more frequently seem edto net less views on average per vid. I think the culprit is Youtube's pathetic notification system which is usually way late in actually notifying anyone that someone has uploaded a new vid. Trying 1 video every 3 days to see how it goes.
