Some people simply bought the wrong vehicle. They go to the store driving a BMW, see a Tacoma, imagine themselves wearing flannel and wrestling a bear out in the wilderness, go trade for a Tacoma and *poof* a guy is on a forum looking to find support and consensus to justify his reason for getting rid of that Tacoma because he came to his senses and realized that at 5'2" and 112 lbs, as an accountant he will never wear flannel because it does not go well with loafers.

My point is for 10k more I could get better fuel mileage and a full size truck.

I’ll bite though: You aren’t gonna beat a Tacoma off-road in a diesel. You also are dealing with astronomical service cost.

Thanks for your post. Wish you and others the best and many happy years of ownership with this truck. I still wonder how these trucks will hold up in reliability to 1st and 2nd gens. My bet is just fine. As the Eagles said: take it easy.

TacomaWorld is kind of like the time you hooked up with a hot random chick, and soon after your pee smells like marshmallows, so you get on google and find out you have two weeks to live, when in reality there is a pill for it.

Keep creating fiction. It isn’t going to stop people from providing accounts of problems they have with products.

I've had my OR DCSB, moon roof w/automatic transmission for 13 months now and I haven't experienced any of these issues. I'm 6', 300 lbs and I find the truck quite comfortable. Sure there are some quirks but nothing that makes me hate my truck or wish I had never bought it.

Not trying to do that. You know what one of the biggest problems IMO is?
This truck does not match the expectations of a few percent of the owners. Sure, some people genuinely have problems. Others seem to think that the truck should perform differently than it does. Some think they know better than the engineers. Bottom line, these guys bought the wrong vehicle a more thorough test drive would have kept them from making a mistake. They blame everything... except themselves.
This, and several other polls, prove that most people like their truck. I do feel for those who have real problems though and, if I have any ideas, will try to help them out.

2nd gen here. I have had very few issues with my truck, only one I can think of is a howl/whistle noise through the passenger door at certain speeds and strong wind from an opposing direction. I think I have a fix for that but haven't gotten around to it. As much as I enjoy my truck and it fits my needs I think they are way too expensive. I paid $36k in '14 for a new 4x4 taco. I don't think the tundra is much more. I didn't research because I wanted a Tacoma and coming from a jeep JK I wanted my truck bad.

TW certainly lowered my expectations after looking over a few of the posts. Took a long test drive and wondered what the hell everyone was talking about. Six months in and I still love this truck!

I wanted to like my 2018 OR. Been in Tacoma's for 20 years. 1 first gen, 4 second gens, and I was in my 2018 third gen for two months. I got the diff howl three days off the lot. Sounded like a kazoo under my truck and corporate said it was normal. I was essentially stuck with it. It felt absolutely rotten. I was sick about it.

After two months and about 20 phone calls with corporate and multiple trips to multiple dealers, I decided to take the loss and I traded the truck (my sincere apologies to the guy that buys it next, as he'll be in for a rude awakening). As for the seat being uncomfortable, I used a 1" memory foam pad to raise me up a bit. As for the transmission, I didn't like it at all.

Super bummed because it was a cool truck and exactly what I need in a vehicle.

I've had the trans-shifting issues and the diff howl. The TSBs greatly reduced issues. By no means is it horrible. In fact, i love my Taco and would buy it again and again.

So sorry to hear that. EVERY vehicle line made has it's share of lemons. Fortunately that is a very small percentage. For the folks who get a lemon its super annoying if the dealer and/or manufacturer doesn't own up to the problems. I wish you all the best in your replacement vehicle.

I would definitely say that overall tacoma owners like their trucks - and come on here to be vocal about the small things they find wrong as sanity checks that it's not just them noticing these small things. I'm in! Just need to sell the Xterra and see what happens come bonus time. I also am amazed with the responses I received on this forum, what a great online community !
