It's hot outside and i travel with my dogs. I sometimes have to keep the AC on for them but am unable to lock the doors when I am outside the vehicle. I really dont like to leave the vehicle running and unlocked!!
Is there any way to over-ride this issue?
    thanks
    sk

Or remove cooling system out of portable cooler and run that, mounted to the back window :D. No need for running engine just tow battery.

Pretty sure you gotta keep it running, but you could bring a second key with you so you can at least lock the doors.

You could probably do it with a remote start... dunno if the timer is variable but I think most will run about 20min. This way, there's no key in the vehicle, if they attempt to put it in gear the immobilizer will kick in... better theft deterant. Leaving the key in the ignition even with the doors locked is still screaming for someone to take 2 seconds to break the window and drive off all in about 5 seconds.

wow..thanks for all the speedy replies!! I thought I had tried the second key thing, but will try it again. THe locations I travel to are relatively safe (large equestrian centers etc), so not just on the street. I'd think (hope) the likelihood of someone breaking in to a locked/running vehicle when there are alot of other people around is less in a situation like this, but then again, never underestimate the stupidity or boldness of criminals!!

Again, thanks from me and my pups! :)

X2 for the remote starter. It's always the first thing i install on any of my vehicles.

On another note you may want to check your local laws about leaving keys in running vehicle while unattended. My mom received a $50 ticket when her car was stolen out of her front driveway while she was warming it up in the winter. Talk about adding insult to injury...

Put your key and your lock remote on a keyring with one of those disconnects on it.

Leave the key in the ignition. Take the remote. Close door. Lock with remote.

I Had the Dealer Slap In An AutoMate AM-7, Alarm/Remote Start. The Above Posts are Correct, Times Out After 12 or 20 Minutes, But Can Be Locked, Armed, And Left Running.
I Have A Clifford G-4 In My Solara. Will Automatically Start on (Adjustable) Low Voltage or (Adjustable) Low Temperature. Don't Think It Will Start on High Temp, But I'd Have To Check. It Will Run for Hours If I Program It That Way. Whole System LapTop Programmable. SPENSIVE TOO !!!
The Technology Is Out There. Post #10 Looks Like a Great Idea.
I've Heard About Site Called "Googley" or Somthin'. Might Try That

I've received a ticket for an unattended vehicle also. For me, it probably didn't help that when the LEO was explaining to me that unattended vehicles lead to auto theft, I replied: "Poor police work leads to auto theft." Ooops...:D
