    Brand new so nothing yet.
These system suck!!! I have been driving a company vehicle with them for more than 6 months and absolutely hate it. I have a 17 Tacoma and you will have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

And they don't put your life in jeopardy here either. They shut down and warn you it's shut down. You are on your own for awhile and I'm fine with that. My truck does not have them but my wife's new highlander does.
Yes, it is rocket science. Vehicles are now using LIDAR, RADAR, LASER and many other acronyms. It's serious technology.
It's only flawed if it didn't tell you it shut off.
It is not the sensor location only, it's the weather overall. Even when sensors are placed on the dash inside the vehicle (Volvo) they will shut off if the weather conditions get bad.

Remember, everything is in the owner's manual, along with the cautions and warnings about when they work and when they don't. If someone buys this based on these safety features and gets upset when they don't work in a blizzard, I'm going to tell them to spend two minutes googling it next time before dropping $40K on a vehicle. Two minutes is all you need to understand their limitations. Two minutes.

    Again,

Anything that can brake for u, working or non working can put u in jeopardy. U have a couple reasonable points though.

Trust me, it’s def not rocket science. I will debate that. Lol.

Either way, the tech is not reliable enough for me plus I like to b at the helm and controlling everything so if the Tacoma shits the bed, I’ll just ride a bike. No additional tech there. Lol!

My wife’s civic does this too.

Funny how people figure how much they spent on a vehicle ($40G) negates the realities of the world around them. The same stuff happens in industry. We have to clean sensors or adjust stuff daily. Sometimes situations arise that are beyond the technology. Live with it.

The more features we offer drivers the more people complain. More proof that some people will complain no matter what so trying to relieve their complains won’t solve the issue it only makes them more determine to find something else. Remember the days when we had to clean our rear windows to see out the rear? Now it is we have to clean the camera. Same problem just a new thing so I can see out the rear. TPMS same thing. A great feature but yet another reason for some to complain.

Happened last month to me driving 1300 miles round trip in my 18. Stuck in bad weather for 3 hours, clean sensor message was on the entire 3 hours, at the time I kinda flipped out wondering what was going on with my 1 week old truck. Seems it's common during inclement weather, stupid and pointless in any poor conditions.

I have this happening to my trd also. I've noticed that when I start up truck it isn't on, but when I get to end of my 1/4 mile driveway and stop to check mail, having put it in park and dimming all lights, that when I reengage the transmission, that's when it comes on. I just did a rolling kill/restart and it cleared the code. No mist or precipitation of any kind. Just put it in park with engine on and dimmed lights is all it takes for mine to trip light on. 1st time it came on I was distressed, but having seen this thread on tw, I'm not all that concerned anymore

I have a 2018 Camry and had the same problem. Warning messages: LDA malfunction, pre-collision system malfunction, check engine light was on, cruise control did not work, secondary collision system problem, brake system malfunction. I checked the gas cap just to make sure and no problem was found. Someone told me to clean off the emblem in the grill. I did so and no more problem! Kind of crazy that would cause all those problems....

Just reviving this thread to say that I experienced this for the first time today. 2018 OR.

First snowfall - My garnish was caked in wet snow, it went away (turned back on) after I brushed it off. Have we come to the conclusion that this is normal in sleet-type weather/when the sensor gets blocked?

I understand the reason why it would turn off if blocked, it just seems stupid as hell considering it's an issue in weather that we're more likely to crash in, haha.

    Didn't buy a 2018 to act like a 2017 :anonymous:

There is not much Toyota can do about that. The water attenuates the signal quite strongly, receiver just loses any kind of return off what's in front of you so it alarms and shuts off.

Only thing they could do is heat the antenna module. But it would have to be quite a strong heater because of all the cooling air. And I think the higher the temperature of the receiver, the more noise there is, but it's been a long time since I learned about that.

I have this issue in my Ram as well. Even bright reflections fuck the system up at times.

We've also had it in our daughter's Mazda CX-5 and my friend's Infiniti Q-whatever has periodic grand mal seizures with the adaptive cruise and front sensors.

The tech isn't fool proof and every manufacturer is having the same issue.

It's funny to read when people have problems it is a 40k truck. But go to the "what did you pay for your truck" thread, and its closer to 30k. Just a little something I find odd.

if it's all clean you might have a bad sensor. Mine started acting up in nice weather and the dealer took care of it.

If you do take it to the dealer try to show them it with the issue occurring. The hardest time I had was getting it diagnosed. Once it happened to the tech while he was driving the truck Toyota had them replace the sensor. I have had no issues since they replaced the sensor.

Honestly though I am fine with it shutting off when the weather is sketchy. The truck has no way of knowing that traction is degraded due to rain or snow and therefore might brake inappropriately. The fact that the system turns itself off seems like a great idea for me. Of course I see this as a safety net in case I mess up and not something that I would rely on. My goal is to never test the safety systems of the truck.

Something is up with my sensor. Clean as a whistle and pcs off light will come on after driving a few minutes with the clean sensor message. I did swap to a pro grill, but it's been installed for 4 months with no issues.

Well, picked up a new used sensor, installed it and so far no more clean sensor message, and no PCS light. Bad sensor at 11k miles. Better than going to the dealership.
