Why?

 

I ran 93 for 3-4 tanks. Didn't notice any difference in performance or economy so went back to 87.

So far, all I can do with the remote is start/stop, lock and unlock. It has a “trunk” button but that does nothing

But, with an intake, exhaust, and switching to 93, this truck makes more power, is more responsive, and gets the best mileage that it can.

Not to mention, the higher octane keeps the cylinder head temps down in the warmer months which means, more efficiency, more power, cleaner burn, and cleaner oil.

 

You should rig something up that would make the trunk button lower your tailgate.

 

I don’t know why, but my truck knocks with 87 in it. So i run 89 in the winter and 93 probably 8-9 months out of the year

 

If only I had the power popnlock and an easy down tailgate like you guys...

 

My 2nd Gen had a knock with 87 Octane. I tried 91 and it also knocked. Took it to the dealership and they had an ECU flash (TSB) that was supposed to correct the knock. Left the dealership that day with an awesome deal on my 3rd Gen. So, I don't know if the 2nd Gen ECU flash corrected the knock or not.

 

Damn! I may switch Mason. Do I go all the way up to 93 or something in between?

 

dumb question, but have you moved away from the OEM heat range on the spark plugs?

 

...I was curious about 87 vs 93.

basically, its a measure of how hot the spark plug is in a running engine, too hot/too cold and it causes issues, like knock.

Entirely up to you. But I don’t think it will help the 3.5 because they don’t make enough compression to benefit from the higher octane fuel.

I have not, but i have toyed with gap and my motor likes .040

 

Wait, did I misread your first post (quoted here), or were you referring to your 08' only?

I wonder what the compression difference is between our trucks.

I think the Atkinson cycle engine is only 9.5:1 or something like that, i will have to look it up

EDIT: oh wow, my mistake...the 3.5 2GR-FKS is 11.8:1 which means never in a million years would i be comfortable running 87 in one
