TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

I have a 3rd gen and am willing to confess my ignorance. This is why I have read every post on this thread in the last few months as well as every post on the turbo b's thread and every post on @Torspd thread. The only thing that I know for sure is that I want a FI system for my truck . Unfortunately, no one has one yet but it looks like OVtune will have his twin turbo out first. I would like to wait and see what Magnuson can come out with but do not want to wait forever .

It appears that you are a Packers fan. I have been a cheese head since Vince Lombardi first came to Green Bay.

 

The ovtune handheld is collecting dust at the moment until he sends out v2 tunes. Or when I get new exhaust mods I'll do more comparisons between TRD and OvTune to see what's better. I'm in line for a JFR ypipe and will be getting URD long tubes and 3 inch exhaust this winter

 

Maybe if I'm lucky and get a custom tune you could reap the benifits as well with a near identical setup.

 

So you have the flash kit and not a handheld? Or the full tune software kit?

 

I have a handheld. With a tactrix cable. Hes emailed me the stuff to datalog. I'm just not tech saavy. Dumb more like it.

 

I emailed him about creating datalogs with the handheld, but his response was the function is not available right now:

 

I guess I will be using my laptop then?? Email it and he sends it back then I load the handheld. I think.

 

His last email was the 2nd as well.

 

Ahhh okay, so you would be datalogging with other software on the laptop. Got it. Did he send you software to use with the tactrix cable or did you find your own? I'd be interested in trying it out myself.

 

You ditching the shorties?? Do you have emissions by you guys?

 

No emissions in Michigan thankfully. I am going to make the jump to URD long tubes and full 3" exhaust. I definitely love the sound of the shorties and only two cats with the TRD catback, but looking for that extra bump in power and I'm thinking it should also help lean out my AFRs closer to 11.
The cats I welded to the shorties are more restrictive. I think they're built more for longevity, but I would have been better off performance-wise and in the wallet going with the part # you sent me or the magnaflows. Although since then I've learned a lot about exhaust for that money lol. Just keeping my fingers crossed that the j-bungs and sims work for the CELs going catless. And that I can get the same exhaust tone or better.

I think so. I need someone to give me a hand with it. I'm sure most 5th graders could figure it out faster than me. It might take me until the 4th gen tacomas are out. @JuanitoBunito, I'm under the impression I dont have emissions. Think because it's new-ish. If I do I'm really screwed.

 

I had a set of sims. Was under the impression they dont work with a 15' so I sold them. Regret that now. Whatcha want for them?

damn this thread..i emailed urd about the whipple...see what gadget replies. i hope he is working on something.

if im putting one on id rather it be the whipple > mp90

 

I’ve told Gadget on more than one occasion that I’d be interested in a kit for the Whipple. I know I’m not the only one.

 

im not beyond hacking up a hood if thats the only fitment issue. if the manifold fits then it sits

the intercooler/heat exchanger can be figured out otherwise

 

If Gadget comes out with it, I will be on it! In the 4Runner/fj Whipple release thread, he was gauging interests for this kit on our trucks and mentioned he would give discounts for anybody interested should we already have the Ucon, fuel pump, etc etc. He would minus it off the price.

That said, maybe it’s not a good idea lol. I’ve already been in this scenario with him previously and it didn’t go so great. Be warned he won’t be giving you much value for your already purchase parts. I had an MK1 SC kit at the time and was looking to upgrade to an Air to Air setup. I already had the C38-91 blower, Ucon, injectors, fuel pump etc etc. All that was missing is the supercharger bracket, intercooler, pipes and Bov. He wanted $3599 USD. Pretty expsensive for an eBay intercooler and a bunch of piping. I put the parts together myself for under $600 usd.
