I just checked my ignore list. It's a bit redundant but kinda funny just the same.

(this is not directed directly towards you)
1.05 is a free update, not a promise. It is an update to our already finished tune version (1.04) that we are working on providing to everyone. I see people now posting on my facebook page thinking that 1.05 is a service owed to them, or that somehow they paid for 1.05. With exception to handheld pre-orders, nobody paid for 1.05, nobody is paying for 1.05. It is within our right to completely scrap 1.05 if we see it being necessary. Why? Because it is a free update, it's not a promise, it's not a guarantee. And guess what, we are allowed to work on other platforms too. I do multiple things at the same time, but it seems like some people think we are not allowed to do anything, at all, until 1.05 is done.
If that were the case I'd charge for 1.05.
We could of easily stopped at 1.04 as said this is the best that the tune will be, no more updates.. and that falls right in line with what we have posted from the beginning which is : Tune kit + Tune + free standard updates.
What if there are no more updates? From some peoples posts and from how some people talk to us it is almost as if they expect we will have updates forever. Obviously not the case.. I mean some of you are already talking about 1.06...

If it isn't clear yet that the reason it is taking so long is because we are getting into deeper sections of the ECU code than every before... then I do not know what else to say.

Do you guys want 1.05 where everything is fixed, or 1.04Bandaid.

Perfect example is when we thought it was impossible to do gear locking.

I have not posted anything lately about when 1.05 will be complete for all version ECUs.
I am not posting any more dates, deadlines, or even hints going forwards. And previous date posted is retracted. I am only going to post what we are working on, what we have figured out.

This type of software.. staring at assembly language takes a LONG time to understand. I've even asked someone I know who does this every single day and is literally a genius at reading assembly. He quoted NINE MONTHS to even understand what's going on with the transmission.. and he is leagues above my ability.

I've been staring at this ECU every single day since I started this platform.
we've figured out gear locking, gear size, wheel diameter changes,

it's going to continue to grow the longer we work on it. I plan to have this truck a very very long time.

Also the 3rd gen Tacoma is out top priority. We work on this more than anything else, and is at the top of our list out of all things we work on.
Top priority just doesn't mean "fast."

There are many things we are looking into doing on this platform..obviously based on practicality and complexity.
One thing we understand is how big this community / 3rd gen owners are, and what they want.

 after a few thousand miles now....1.03 feels just right to me, the strong tip-in
I enjoyed from the start but now has mellowed a bit but still feels great off the line...
you could have stopped there as far as my truck goes.

Hang in there. Sorry you're getting trashed on Facebook, not necessary for sure. I think not sharing dates is probably the right call at this time - unfortunately when folks do see a date, they see it as a promise, rightfully or wrongfully. Thanks for continuing to dig in to get the AT solved.

To all else, I agree there isn't a "perfect" tune/calibration for the AT just yet. But across 1.03, 1.04, 1.04r, or even the TSB we are at a point where most can find something they can live with in the meantime - and in many cases be extremely happy with! It isn't like early 2017 when there were ZERO options to keep the truck from driving like complete garbage. So we wait, and when the time comes not only will this crew be happy but it will also drive yet another wave of happy OVtune customers who are waiting for 1.05 to make the leap.

Too bad OVTune just doesn't have an announcement thread for updates that is locked to him only as a sticky. Keep this as a discussion thread, etc. but just have a simple one stop shop that folks can read all the info that gets lost here. just a thought.

I don't think most folks understand what Assembly actually is. Easy way to dumb it down is that it's the actual 1's and 0's being written to memory blocks that represent what the higher level code is requesting be done. Google or Youtube Assembly or Machine language to learn more. Most modern software developers have no clue how assembly actually works.

I think we'd all like to smack the Toyota Leadership for approving this direction on this platform.

Most people don’t understand software. Development is a challenge especially when you are trying to decipher someone else’s code. Someone has to create it, you don’t just go pick it up and it’s not something you learn in an afternoon.

Assembly is no joke. Take development and then flip the switch for hard mode. We talked about it in some compsci classes and it’s basically magic. The stuff computers are capable of these days is mind blowing and it’s still amazing anyone figured out how to make any of this work and that it’s as reliable as it is.

The fact that Matt is the only guy outside of Toyota who has deciphered any of this should tell you that this is far from simple. Add on the constant badgering from the people that want it now, and it’s definitely a tough job.

We all want to see the true potential of this platform. Give the man some time and it’ll come. This has come so far in a year and we are just now getting to the best part where far more is possible than we imagined.

If you've played fallout 4, to me, modern programming is like playing fallout on easy, and assembly is like playing fallout on survivor mode. People really have no clue.

Ehh Survivor mode is like programming C.

Assembly is like playing blind-folded with no hands.

I dont expect people to understand how hard reading assembly is, or disassembling code when you dont even have the processor data sheet BECAUSE TOYOTA WONT RELEASE IT!

I called the facility that makes the processor in China.. they dont have it.
I spoke with the facility managers that create the PCB.. they don't have it.
So then I spoke with Renesas, the company that designs these automotive MCUs, ... the processor is specially designed just for toyota. They won't release it.
It's a proprietary version of a standard NEC MCU.

Toyota keeps the datasheets locked in a safe surrounded by guards or something. NOBODY has it.

And I think I know why. Toyota does not want anyone seeing how much garbage they put into their tunes LOL. (kidding)

Usually I’d say they don’t want a competitor ripping them off but I think in this case it’s to keep everyone from laughing at them for the monster they have created
