so I am from Florida and it does not get cold too often, but when it does get cold I notice a squeal from under the hood. It sounds like a belt squeal but the belts were replaced six months back and the last time I had it in the shop I mentioned this too them and the belts check out with proper tension. Anyone have any other ideas what could be causing the squeal. After truck warms up the squeal goes away. This has been puzzling me for a while now.

Still high odds it's a belt.

Are you starting with the AC on? Turn it off and see if the squeal stops. At least that will help figure out which belt.

I was thinking if it was a manual, it would be the throwout bearing. My 5-lug does it too.

Belt makes sense though. My PreRunner squeals on acceleration, think a belt is loose.

    Is it auto or manual?

EDIT: If the profile pic is your truck, then it’s a double cab and would be automatic. No 5-speed double cabs came from the factory.

    How old are the belts?

So you say this only happens when it’s cold outside? Could just be the belts shrinking from the cold.

Sounds like belt shrinkage, especially if it goes away after the truck warms up.

Belts shrinking might make sense. Once it’s warm the squeal goes away.

All tightened properly? Could be the tensioner or maybe a pulley.

In my opinion, I say it’s just the belts shrinking from cold weather. There could totally be something else wrong though.

Does squeaking happen in normal weather?

    Sure I can.

In 1st, 2nd, and Reverse. Ask me to drive in any other gear and you’re gonna have a bad time.

Yep, could be. Although I've never had one that 'only' did it in cold weather. Well, maybe when it first started to get wonky.

OP, just because the belts are new and the tension is good (when checked in warm weather) doesn't mean they can't squeal. You could have a glazed pulley, an idler pulley bearing, etc etc.

Have the hood open and let someone else start the truck while you watch and listen.

I have successfully treated a belt squeal with a CRC product called "belt conditioner."

Probably is, just with different stabilizing compounds. Pretty sure they’re both Petroleum distillates.

A lot of Automotive fluids are Petroleum derived.
