You do, I did not know he was there until I stumbled across him. Look for the smoke plume then go to it he will show up cougars in the area along with a lot of other game. Really good hunting spot in that corner of the map

 

Other option is if the animal is small enough to store the entire animal on your horse and return to camp or the trapper. For camp upgrades some some items like pronghorn skull etc can only be unlocked by bringing the entire carcass back.

Avoid youtube, too many spoilers.

 

You start with a mission, then you can kind of explore if you really wanted to. I highly recommend waiting on exploring until you at least make it to your 2nd official camp site(1st move)

 

You have to do chapter 1 first. It basically teaches you the mechanics and controls. It's not nearly as bad as people make it seem, and it sets the stage for the storyline.

 

Has anyone ventured into any of the caves? I found a couple and think I got through one, it wasn't very big. There's another that looks huge just haven't explored it yet but I'm going to.

 

Be careful exploring some too early in the game....could be a spoiler for later chapters

 

You can but be warned you'll rack up a lot of bounty $$ and that's hard to deal with in the beginning when you have low funds. Plus townsfolk will react differently to you if you go full desperado.

lol I've wondered how it would go if you just went full bastard and killed everything. Trust me, you'll piss off enough people just trying to holster your weapon in town and accidentally shooting someone.

 

I've been as good as I can and haven't moved too far from slightly above neutral on the bad/good scale.

It seems one bad action drops it fast and takes many good actions to boost it back up.

 

I'm pretty far on the good scale. I want to get it to the highest to unlock a special revolver grip. You also unlock a special revolver grip for being the furthest on the bad scale. Idea is to get both eventually and have one in each hand for my dual revolvers

 

I just restarted and this has been my motto this second play through..
