Opinions on Predator Tube Step?

Hey Everyone,
I think I’m very close to grabbing a pair of the “OEM” predator tube steps that Toyota offers and wonder if anyone has any regrets or wishes they went with a different style? Please post up pics if you have them! Or even your own set up. Thank you for your time in advance.

 

I love my steps
they're the only kind I wanted it all depends on what you prefer

 

I have them since I got the truck March 2017, no issues, haven't scratch them yet at the mall.

It does take some adjustment stepping out of the truck, the steps don't stick out very far. Other than that, they are great, as long as you are not rock crawling or serious off-roading.

 

Isn't there two styles of the Predator step?

 

I would have to agree these types are extremely good looking and probably one of my favorite types of steps. Thank you for your input!

You might laugh when I say this, but is there any chance of stepping between the step and bar and sliding through and royally jacking yourself up? I haven’t seen predators in person yet, but are a favorite of mine. I leased my SR, as this is a first truck, first Toyota for me. But already love it. Should have purchased, maybe in 3 years I’ll upgrade to a higher trim level. I’m assuming you love your Pro? Thank you for your input!

Not that I am aware of, ive only ever seen one style of predator tube steps offered from Toyota.

 

Take your time shopping and wait for someone to take them off a new truck. I wouldn't pay dealer prices

 

Yeah I was quoted $543 for my access cab, not sure if it was installation included or not but apperently they’re easy to install.

 

I wanted to get Predator steps after I bought my truck, mainly because I wanted hoop steps and the fact that they're aluminum (to prevent rust). After some research I found that kids can get their legs caught between the bar and the step, as you mentioned above. Due to that, I found a hoop step with an enclosed toe area. These N-fab Podium steps are textured black powdercoat over stainless steel. Took care of my two issues; didn't want steel, didn't want kids slipping through and breaking legs. Cost is similar to Predators.

Edit:. The stainless these are made from doesn't hold up that well in salt. One winter and welds at foot plate starting to bleed a little... Maybe not the best choice for the high cost. Disappointed.

 

You can almost get legit bolt to frame rock sliders for that price

 

Watch the buy/sell/trade on the forum to get a set that someone is dumping!

I would get Sliders, if it was my truck.

Yes there are. I have the pair in the first picture. I feel they are way too bulky so I took them off. Wish i had a pair of the second generation predator bars Instead. they look way better.

 

Sadly I do not think they carry these for access cabs. But I will continue searching through the websites to see if I can find a set.

Yes I am starting to realize this and debating on which to go to.

That’s what I’m hoping for. Ones that were sold with the truck and they took them off within the first week or so. Recommend any specific sliders for an access cab?

I will only be doing light off-roading if anything. Nothing too severe. Around here it’s dirt roads and state parks, new to off-roading so not looking to go too deep on the trails yet.

I see Amazon has some "Used-Like New" Predator steps for access cab for $394; Toyota Genuine PT925-35162 Predator Tube Step.

I've bought a lot of stuff from Amazon Warehouse, and most everything has really been like new. Some of it just had a damaged box, and if it's not what I expected, they've paid to ship it back.

 

What do you have in mind?

 

That would actually be a really nice option. I’ll have to look at that and I like the fact that if it isn’t up to par or if I don’t like it I can send it back.

 

When shopping I originally wanted the predator tubes, but was happy my truck just had something. That being said, If I did drop the cash to replace my OEM running boards, I'd go bolt on rock sliders. Should also hopefully help with door dings.

 

Yeah I didn’t like that mine came with the mudflaps/door sill protectors/bed mat but no mudflaps. It’s no big deal as I’m going to pick up a pair but side steps is next on my list as some of my friends have some trouble getting in with their height haha.

 

I'm sure others have said it as well, but I wouldn't buy from the dealership. Look around here for local sales and you can probably get them for a great price. Good luck and make sure to post back with some pictures!
