IMG_3553.jpg I was the only truck in a football field sized parking lot and a tourist pulled in to look at the boats in the harbor and got so excited that he just backed right into me, and my truck is bright red!!

The dealer has an obligation to return your property to you in the condition it was received...if that’s not the case they are liable. If someone damaged the vehicle while in their possession that’s their problem not yours...I would submit a claim with the dealers liability carrier and let them go after the other guy. Since the damage is over $500 dollars a police report should be filed. At least that’s how I see it.

We have one dealership for Toyota’s and they aren’t completely bad to deal with when Servco Toyota but the service department is terrible due to so
many Toyota’s and not enough service bays.

Sounds like mistakes were made, but they're owning it.

There really isn't much need a discussion of what you want to get out of this, it's plain and simple. You should be getting the damage repaired, or be getting a check to take it to a shop of your choice for the repairs. If they want to throw in a few services like oil changes or whatever to smooth things over and try to keep you as a customer, that's fine. Otherwise, it's just a situation of get it fixed and move on.

I agree it should be fixed to his standards. The fair solution is they either repair it, or he gets a quote from a shop of his choice and they cut him a check. The guys saying to get a free set of wheels or a new truck, or anyone really suggesting what freebies he should get are going over the top.

I think of this just like any traffic collision. If you get in a minor collision that isn't your fault, the other person pays for the repairs. It's not a situation of "pay for my repairs, and buy me lunch for two weeks" or "pay for the repairs and buy me a new set of wheels."

OP, this sucks, I know, but the dealership did man up, and if you can't see where the ding is, I would honestly call it a day.
Any truck I have bought has been already pre dented, which has saved me the trouble and worry about when and where that first ding will happen.
I had a restored Datsun Zcar that I was always so paranoid about parking ANYWHERE. It kinda took the fun outta it.

My question concerns the incompetence of the service adviser. Where do they get these people, from under a tumbleweed somewhere?

Sorry to say this, but all dealers will damage or abuse your truck. The techs don't care, they do shoddy work, leave grease on anything they touch, scratch your paint, leave your valve caps loose so they are lost by the time you get home, mess with your radio, take your change, pick their nose in it and hot rod it when test driving it. Sorry your truck was dented. Never go to the dealer unless you want a brand new truck. Good luck. Here is my truck, why would I want them to shit all over this?

    The world is going mad.
In the first post, the guy went to pick up his truck and noticed swirl marks.
What happened was, a kid opened a door and caused a door ding on the property. They had identical Tacomas in the shop, they called the wrong owner to get authorization to repair, he gave it and they fixed a truck. Too bad it was the guy that wasn't informed!
So the guy who was notified of damage had no damage and the guy that wasn't notified had a door ding fixed. The right way too!

And then we have crazy people thinking he needs a new truck, or new wheels, or money or lawsuits.

All because of an honest mistake.

And the way I understood it is that they called the wrong customer. So, they did get approval to fix it, just from the wrong guy. So, the dealer really was not hiding anything, there was just a mistake made in verifying the customer.
