All i can say is that i got into a head on collision at hwy speed with my second gen tacoma (3 inch lift and 32’ tires) and the cab mount took the hit and crushed the factory rim. The cab mount was almost ripped off the truck and bent the frame where it was attached. On the 3rd gen tacomas they beefed up the front cab mounts and they are now significantly larger, probably to provide increased protection from wheel incursion into the foot space of the occupants compared to the 2nd gen. Im glad I did not have a CMC and will never do one after seeing the carnage on my 2nd gen. My views and opinions only.

Nobody gives a large rodent’s sphincter about the truck then. You missed the point.

    Oh?

And what of the sphincter on a lesser sized rodent?

Good topic. Lots to think about. Can a CMC affect safety? Yeah probably, to some degree.

    .
    .
Can a lift and larger tires affect safety? You betcha.

Can a RTT on a bedrack affect safety? Believe it or not, yes. Probably raises the center of gravity significantly.
    .
    .
So many different ways to look at this equation. Are modified Tacoma’s with a CMC, 3” lift and 33’s safer than a similar truck 10-20 years ago? Yes probably, thanks to technology and airbags.
    .
    .
Are we all doomed, thanks to MOST motorists occupied with their cell phones? Yes, drive carefully and defensively, get plate bumpers and sliders and you’ll “feel safer” from all the distracted motorists.

The cab mounts play a big role in an offset collision.

I discover new things in this video each time I watch it. Interesting how the impact is strong enough to open the fuel hatch, throw the gas cap clear, then close it again. I imagine the fuel tank was empty for the test. I wonder if it was air pressure from a collapsing tank or just momentum that popped the cap?

The other cool thing is the speed that the steering wheel airbag deploys. Even in slo-mo, you cannot really watch it come out of the steering column. It is just suddenly there.

Same here, this time I paid attention to the roof and looks like it does not buckle.

Also interesting that the windshield did not shatter. Looks like the hood got pushed right into it.

I've only ever seen the drop brackets cause issues in accidents, but it doesn't pertain to the safety of the passengers. It does however show the weakness of the frame x-member being cut.

Yeah sorry. I meant shatter into a zillion little cubes or go completely “frosted”. You are correct it has cracks in it.

That's a novel way to remove the grill for a grill swap. Wonder if they broke any clips.
