Yeah.. idk, you can write "boobs" on a caculator, that moves it up one spot to being penultimate to magnanimous.

It’s the dealers fault by proxy even though they did the right thing. They contacted the wrong owner and got permission to fix it so the actual owner had no idea this had occurred. If he had been contacted, he could have either gave permission to fix it and/or got the offenders insurance information to get it fixed himself relieving all liability from the dealership. But because of the snafu, the dealership made it their responsibility.

And yes, Lowe’s, or any retailer can be liable in the right situation. A car hitting yours while parked? No. If a Lowe’s shopping cart hits your car, yes. It is their responsibility to keep the parking lot clear and their property secure. Just most don’t realize it happened till much later.

The dealer did the right thing. It’s unfortunate to the OP they screwed up to cause this mess. They should fix it to his standards and nothing less. Should he get free stuff? No, but if he asks and gets it, then good for the OP. And to all that say “it’s just a door ding you douche”, get over it. You worry about your truck, he will worry about his.

They did mess up contacting the wrong guy to get approval for fixing the truck, as far as shopping carts go alot of stores have signs saying they are not liable for shopping cart damages. I still dont think the dealer was liable for this, if my trucks parked at your house and your buddy comes over and hits my truck is it your fault?

I'm amazed with the range of comments from members...from "new door" or "new truck" to "just move on with your life and forget about it". I completely understand the frustration involved with an incident like this. When I drove my truck home day 1, I noticed the rear driver side fender flare had been door dinged. No dent of course since its plastic but the paint was damaged. About the size of pea. I called and raised hell demanding a new flare, but I settled for touch up paint job. I finally told myself...shit happens and this won't be the last blemish on my truck.

Stores are not liable if a shopping cart hits your vehicle if they have a cart corral in place. It is the responsibility of the customer to return the cart when they are done. If they do not, the store can not be held responsible for the actions of the customer. The store has implemented a practice and made available a secure spot to return carts, they are relieved of all liability.

Wow! If you really think ALL dealerships will damage/abuse customer vehicles you need to think again! This post infuriates me to no end. I take great pride at my job as a Mercedes tech & work on customer cars as if they are mine. The local Toyota dealership I get my trucks warranty work completed at has been the same way. Sorry but I don't see techs hot rod your truck or most Tacomas for that matter lol. Can I ask what you do for a living as I'm sure I can rant on that profession just as much as you did mine!!!

To the OP it's a dent, sounds like dealer owned up & got it fixed. I would be okay with this as long as the pdr repair is well done. End of issue.

When I got my truck I built a plexiglass box. Truck sits inside of it 24 /7, zero chance of damage. OP I know this sucks on a new truck, dealership made it right as possible. Remember life is short and things will go wrong. First world problems.

It probably went something like this:
Someone reports a Tan Tacoma just got hit in the service area. Service advisor looks out of the Window and the person reporting it says that one. Service advisor only remembers one Quicksand Tacoma because someone else wrote the other one up.
Service advisor calls the customer they think it is, so the name is still correct for the person she is calling, however, it was not his truck. This could have all been avoided had the service advisor actually stepped out of the office and got the VIN from the dinged truck. SA lets Service Manager know customer was called and approved repair. No one looks at VIN because dealer is paying for the repair and there is no need to report anything any further.

I'm assuming its a pretty common human emotion for all of us when we first got that new car, we all try to keep it as perfect as possible for as long as possible...then comes the first ding and we all take a deep breath and say the same thing. There could be a whole thread of "my truck got its first blemish when:

Not that anyone cares, but here is my best one. I had a 2012 Honda Civic and I had like 6,000 miles on it and still absolutely perfect. I've ALWAYS filled up gas for my wife, like ALWAYS, every time. She has never used a pump. She needed to go somewhere one day and her SUV was almost empty and we were rushing and I didn't have time to fill up before she took it. I took her SUV to work and got gas. She took my Civic. Literally the first time she ever drove it. Long story short. A woman at work straight backed into the drivers side door and totally crushed it. We got it fixed and it looked good but she still hears about getting my car wrecked the ONE time she drove it.

Then on the extreme side of crazy keep my car perfect behavior. I met an older guy once selling a car that claimed he hadn't rolled down the windows in his vehicles or used the windshield wipers since the 70s because it caused micro scratches on the glass.

Not exactly true. If a business has shopping cart corals you must prove they did not exercise “reasonable care” which is difficult to do in that situation.
Completely unattended would be a different situation.

I had an errant shopping cart hit my Honda accord and put a dent in it, I witnessed it, the shopping cart wrangler kid had one get away from him and it rolled into my car, I went to the store manager who was very nice and he said get a few estimates for the repair and they honored the payment for the repair. if I hadn't been there to witness the whole incident it probably wouldn't have went that way

Yes. A retailer can be responsible for cart damage. Now, I didn’t say all cases and etc. in my recent post, I said can be liable in the right situation and I never said it had to be a customer.

I think in most cases you would have to witness the actual incident/damage being done, because if you come back and find a cart planted in your car with a dent they can always say some other customer was negligent since there are no witnesses or any employees that will confess to doing it

Let’s say you have a party at your house. Guest A and Guest B park side by side in your driveway. Guest A’s door bumps into Guest B’s door and leaves a dent. Guest B sees this happen. They walk inside and ask you to pay for the damage. After all, it’s your property and you invited Guest A. I hope with a passion this happens to you. There is negligence which should be compensated and there is petty crap that happens in life.

no way the property owner is responsible for Guest As door denting Guest Bs door its common sense. now if at the party Guest A and Guest B become intoxicated to the point of drunk driving and damages/injuries occur than you can be liable and I aint even a lawyer

Well of coarse a witness or video will provide substantiation but pictures of a messed up parking lot with no “act of god” proof certainly helps as well.
