Kinda just hanging out... theyre up spraying, and Im just killing time.....

Will say this, between the foam, and the 2 new stats, heat on tye 2nd floor didnt kick on until 0600 this morning, from yesterday.
And first floor same thing. I have a pretty aggressive setback, but, the boiler is big enough, and the 2 air handlers can handle the recovery.

So.. from 9 last night, to 0600, the boiler only fired to maintain temp....

In light of this, Im debating on tearing the ceilings out of the downstairs bath(redone anout 2 years ago), mudroom, and laundry, and sealing that old mess too....
Much smaller area, but, will be worth it.....

Before you go nuts, keep in mind that the foam is an exothermic reaction so the foam itself is producing heat while it cures. That could be part of the reason it is as warm in your house as it is. Give it some time to finish curing and you will have a more accurate sense of the foam benefits. It will certainly be a huge improvement, but it could be skewed a little bit now because of the curing.

    Yes. 100% true.
The first day, the 3rd floor was WARM. Like spring.... surface temp was about 120f.

By yesterday, interior surface temp matched room temp, and surface temps of surrounding materials.

And the roof still had snow on it....

The big thing, is it is noticeably less drafty.

Time will tell the story of course.
Im tracking the the cycles of the boiler, air handlers, interior temp/humidity, and outdoor conditions, including wind, precip, etc.

Im on automatic for oil, and I always use the same company, so, I will have a good usage trend based on degree days, abd actual consumption.

Tried to reset it by turning system off and putting batteries backwards, would I have to shut furnace off too when I do that? I didn’t.
    RTH7500D oil forced hot air,burner
Found manual and figured out schedule and how to not use it .never use it.
So I have display where I usually have it. Furnace kicked on but to only warm pipes(my guess)didn’t even stay on long enough to raise temp. Got it off permanent hold and says heat is on. . I jumped around a bit but I hope I covered all your questions. If pipes stay warm is my concern mostly
    I have wood heat

Since I am sitting here, being useless....
    @Pugga
To kind of give you an idea...

So the area im looking to spray next, is about 200 sqft.
Its a low pitch, multi angle roof, and no way to insulate it well, and allow it to breath, other than foam. Thus, i dropped the ceilings to 8ft, and added r15 batts above. Better than nothing....
However, being an old balloon frame, the floor joists under my room in particular, have uncoditioned air in them, as theyre above the insulation.

It took 2 years to get here, as i did a BOATLOAD of research insulating. Old drafty houses in particular.
In this case, insulating the bottom of the roof deck, allows me to insulate ABOVE as well.

But, it creates that air seal, and will definitely provide much better r value than my crappy batt job.

    Excuse my crappy rendering....
But, the pitch in my drawing is more aggressive than it really is.....

None of this is final. Its first pieces of a puzzle, to get the most out of the house, and not create headaches.
I am not a GC. I dont do residential work(except my own).
And I am learning a lot of this as I go. So, I stop, research, etc.

    Anyway.....

Do me a favor, take a picture of the business side of your boiler.
    In particular, the gauge.
Bet you have a triple, and, it will never let the boiler get below a certain temp

Oh, I can do much worse....:D:D

I did the same when I researched how to insulate my crawl space. The main house has a full basement, but the back part has a crawl space that was never insulated. It was also balloon framed past the floor so drafty around the floor. I boxed off the stud space at floor level with wood, did regular fiberglass insulation in the walls above and spray foamed from below. It’s a floor, so R value wasn’t as important to me as much as an air block. I learned quickly that R value and air seal are not related and not to be confused with one another. I did the foam myself on a cool day and remember how F-in hot that crawl space got, especially since I was wearing a Tyvek suit and a half face respirator.

You mentioned reset button. Where would it be? I was told they were tiny.
If it even applies. Furnace heats up water to baseboard heaters

On your burner, you have 2 resets. 1 on the burner motor, and the other, is the red button on the primary control(blue box).
Never hit it more than one time. Period.
Second, if it is firing, dont hit it.
Looks like a honeywell triple acting aquastat. It will maintain a minimum boiler temp. If you open it, it should have 3 dials.
As long as the boiler is getting hot, that is working, as is you burner.
So, your issue could be either the stat, or the circ pump. Or the relay in the aquastat...

@pitbool99 i had an issue a while ago, he’s kept randomly coming on, it was the dead heat of summer. Turns out, the 2 wires from the thermostat to the control valve frayed and caused the erroneous call for heat. Start stupid, check the simple stuff, make sure all your connections are tight and wiring is in good shape.
