Yes any 1/4" nylon nut should work. Napa is just the closest to me.

 

This is great. I don't know about everyone else, but my OEM screws were rusty, so I replaced then with stainless steel screws. Looks much better, and now they stay down.

 

Did this today. I used Ace part 59704-P: (1/4") #14 GM NUT, in the bin with the license plate nuts. They were $0.40 each. A little on the big side, but they worked great, and my scuff plate is no longer loosey goosey.

Fantastic solution. My plate popped up and kept scraping the door. I looked online for the part and the cheapest was $74. Then I read the post on this forum. Cost of the nuts was $5.88 and I have a bunch (9) left over for something else. The only thing I did a little differently was to use my razor knife aka box cutter or utility knife to trim the tabs on the plate further after I cut them with the wire cutters. Made for a much better fit in my case. Thanks again for the fix and thanks for this forum. It has gotten me out of a lot of jams.

This thread helped me to. Did it about six months ago. I printed out a copy of your photo of the nylon nuts you posted, and took it to my local NAPA. Handed it to the guy, and said I need these. Made life easy, thanks.

They were a little on the big side, but they worked great, and my scuff plate is now on there tight as can be. I bought 5 nylon nuts, figuring I'd screw (pun intended) something up. I needed 4, as that's how many tabs were broken off.

Those plastic trim pieces are long gone on my truck

I just used large split loom to protect the harness

I did use the OP method but also replaced the whole scuff plate and had to use RivNuts as well.

 

Where did you get that scuff plate? I’m liking that way better!

 

I made it out of door threshold all solid aluminum. Easy to cut and shape.

I dont recall but I think I got 2 of them each 3 foot and cut off what I didn't need.

Thanks to the OP for posting this years ago ! I just replaced my door speakers and decided to put Kilmat inside both doors. I finished that so now I'm taking all of the plastic and seats out of the back of my extended cab and am installing the Kilmat on the metal surfaces back there, and for years my scuff plates (necessary to remove since the extended cab side rear plastic cover is covered by the scuff plate) have been attached by only about one screw and I started searching for some sort of nylon nut to put into the holes.
