The markup looks real legit also. They didnt cheap out and use a ball point here. Nothing but fountain ink will do.

Dealers suck in general. I have little to no respect for car salesman or F&I people.

Interesting they add an addendum to the window sticker which totally contradicts their mission statement...too bad I’m not in the market for a vehicle I would have fun with this

Yep, not just a NJ thing, same thing applies to Maryland where I'm from. You can buy in DE but as soon as you try to register it in Maryland, they ask for sales tax. This applies to every state in the US that has sales tax.

Anyways, I just moved out here in middle of nowhere Illinois for school. Pro's are discounted here. Most likely because everyone here doesn't drive "Foreign crap" and the fact that there aren't really any offroad trails here in the flat plains..

If some didn't actually pay market adjustments dealers wouldn't have the incentive to add them.

A guy I work with bought a new Hyundia Santa FE the other day and was bragging how good a deal he got. I asked him what he paid and he said MSRP.
I asked how is that a good deal, he said well they dropped the $1495 market adjustment.

Took the wind out of his sails a bit when I told him my wife purchased one several weeks ago and our dealer didn't have a market adjustment and in addition after a little
haggling, we got 12% off MSRP.

I bought a unicorn of sorts,6spd manual Sport in Cement Grey. They wouldn’t trade it to my dealer, so I bought it from them. They knocked off $500.00 from sticker, I said $1000.00, they said no. I got up and said no thanks and started to walk, “we are not gonna lose a sale for $500.00”, I said deal. $1000.00 below sticker, not the best deal, but I was in a rental due to totaled 2nd gen. I got what I wanted, and didn’t get screwed to bad. You have to be prepared to walk, or be prepared to be screwed . It is a free market system, car dealers know it.

Why was there a market adjustment on a very common Santa Fe? I can somewhat understand like a TRD Pro or a Shelby Mustang or something like that but a Santa Fe?

I assume because the Santa Fe body style changed in 2019 (looks good) and the particular dealer was selling them so fast he thought he could make an additional $1495 profit.
Like I said, the dealer where we purchased didn't have the market adjustment.

I have a friend, who was a general manager at a large dealership and said quite a few people will come to a dealer and pay whatever the dealer says the car cost, just like they were buying a can of peas at a grocery store.

    Supply and demand boys.

If you put your taco up for sale for a similar price as everyone else in your area, say $30,000. Are you going to sell for $25,000 just because that's what blue book says?

    Let's not get hypocritical here.

You should have peeled the sticker back, crossed out their number, and put in negative one bajjillion dollars.

I've heard of highway robbery, but that's rape.

Have these dealers bumped their heads.

I know it’s an old thread but if you live in DE you still pay tax on cars and houses. I know-I work at Toyota. BTW We never bump sticker trucks. Not even pros. Tbh we discount pros.

but for $7k you are getting lifetime power train warranty, pin stripe, window etching, and road hazard!

The addendum sticker is pretty common. A fool starts negotiating from that. It takes balls for a dealership to advertise their extra profit.
