On VWs there’s a rubber hose leading to the purge valve. In the case of fuel coming in through the purge line, I can watch scan tool display STFT pulling fuel, and then pinch off the hose and watch STFT go back to normal.

I haven’t really looked at the Tacoma purge line to see if it’s rubber or hard plastic, but I’m sure either way there’s a way to block the line for testing.

I would think it would probably be a rich DTC like P0172 / P0175. The enabling conditions are a little more strict, which could be why they are no setting.

P017x enabling conditions from the FSM:
    -“engine warm”
    -“stable AFR feedback”
    -“2 trip detection logic”
-“considerably in error to rich/lean side”

Maybe by the second trip he’s already sucked up the excess fuel in the canister. The first trip probably qualifies, but maybe by the second trip the ECM disregards?

That’s what I did too. The DT LT headers had bungs for gauge sensors. Passenger side bung was really tight so I ended up rounding off the plug and couldn’t get it out. So I had an exhaust shop add one on the Y-pipe just downstream of the flange.

Spark plugs? I’m having some misfire myself and I’m sure that’s the culprit.

You would figure I would have an EVAP or overly rich code accompanying with the o2 sensor codes as well. The codes I am getting are not totally helpful because they are symptom codes, not the cause area code. So frustrating. Lol.

I dont personally own one but I do have access to one.

I just can't seem to wrap my head around why only fill ups would cause an issue in the fuel line.

Now that you mention it, I remember one time I fueled up while I had the engine running. While I was filling I could see the gauge start to go rich as the fuel tank level was filled. Just a little tidbit worth mentioning.

The line leading to and leading out of the purge valve is rubber. That's actually not a bad idea, but that would require a second set of hands which I rarely have with me, as the scan took only reaches so far and the event is a relatively brief and short lived event.

Spark plugs are new and I believe this issue has been happening long before the plugs were replaced.

The issue is an intermittent mega rich at idle only for a few minutes issue. Once RPM rises above anything, or I get to cruising RPM the AFR stabilizes.

I never have. I learned a very long time ago that doing that sort of thing is a horrible idea, as it usually floods the charcoal canister which will damage it.

Any of you tinkerers ever think of making your own fuel pump assembly similar to this?

It would not be a bad idea, but how easy would it be to retrofit into our current design?

Thanks buddy! Yes, i confirmed this on the way home today. AFR on passenger bank leaned out to 12.9 at WOT in third gear. AFR on driver side was a good 11.5. Guardian kicked in as usual. @Roostfactor

Shouldn't be too hard. There are some really trick fuel pump hanger already made for other models, but they can be pretty pricey. I was thinking of fabbing my own basic one, if I can find the right hardware. Would be pretty trick to run some nice -AN lines straight to the fuel rails.

    Example:

Yes, one for each bank, super glad i did this as i am having a problem with one bank right now. Got the idea to go this route when i saw @Athlaos 's setup. Hes got one for each bank, and i was inspired:D

Both AFR sensors are at the front of my JFR y-pipe right behind the merge on my URD headers.

Then of course, we'd need some nice fuel rails to match.
