Hello all. New member in Portland, OR. I have a black '99 Tacoma 4cyl 4wd extended cab with auto transmission 224k miles. It was purchased used in '04. It's hands-down the best vehicle I've ever owned, but you all probably know that already! It was rear-ended a couple years back which totaled it, but the damage was mainly to the body and we bought it back from the insurance company. Since then my RAV4 has become the primary family vehicle and the Tacoma is Dad's ride (me). I'm solid with basic maintenance; I've replaced the starter, alternator, belts, idler pulley, brakes and feel confident with those tasks.

Right now I have a bad u-joint which is squeaking at low RPMs, 'clunking' into gear and vibrating and I'm on a mission to replace it. I've been studying the repair, which is when I found this forum. I think this forum is exactly what I've been missing in my life as a Tacoma owner.

My first goal on this forum is to find advice regarding the u-joint repair which may be specific to my truck. Once that is accomplished I'll move on to other repairs and maybe one day some mods.

I don't have any advice, but it is easier to get a joint in a state where it's legal.
