    Hey Everyone,
Curious to see who all leased their 3rd gen, and if you plan to purchase at end of lease, or upgrade to a higher trim/different vehicle. Thanks in advance, curious to see who all leases on here. Thanks!

I did. I have 3 1/2 years to decide and will assess our needs at that time. For the moment though, I’m happy with my 2wd but might go 4wd if the wife will let me ....

I'm on my third Tacoma lease. I had a 2013 sr5, a 2016 sr5, and now a 2018 limited. I like having a new truck every 3 years without the worry of brakes, tires etc. I probably will be buying when I get closer to retiring, but for now it works for me. The downside is if you like modding your truck then leasing is not the way to go. I am one of those turn key, just want to drive it kind of people, so that isn't an issue for me.

I leased as I haven’t had a truck in years and wasn’t sure if I would like it....I love it and have done a ton of stuff to it. I will either be buying it at lease end or possibly trading for a full size

Leased mine with the plan on purchasing after. Got a lift and other things done to it so I’m stuck with that choice anyway lol

You can mod the hell out of a lease as long as the contract does not state it has to remain stock.

I did, terminated around the 18 month mark, no penalties on my end, just signed a peace of paper and no more taco.

DO NOT TRADE IN A LEASE. If you finish the lease, sell it or pay out the remainder. If you terminate early, just post a lease take-over, lots of people want them.

I hear that a happy wife means a happy life.. haha, I live in the northeast so 4x4 was semi optional if I wasn’t going to drive during snow season. Hope to see ya in a 4x4 if you decide to go with it.

I’m currently leasing my 19 SR Access Cab, as I wanted to get out my wrx lease and have a low monthly payment with no money out of pocket. What made ya go from as SR5 2 times running to a limited? If you don’t mind me asking.

I know the feeling, I have never owned/leased a truck or a 4x4 vehicle so I wasn’t sure of it in the long run but so far I like it. The Tacoma is definitely a nice vehicle, on any trim level from what I can tell.

Hey there’s nothing wrong with that, I’m glad to hear your enjoying your Tacoma and installed a lift. Have fun.

I truly never realized this, I always thought you could only mod the exterior(looks) but not mechanical.

I would have to agree, you never know what they might realease Tacoma wise in three years.

Nothing wrong with that, glad to hear you’re enjoying it and hope you continue to. Good luck.

May I ask why you terminated around the 18 month mark? I usually drive under mileage as I had a WRX lease with only 4500-5000 miles when I traded her in for the taco at around the 26/27 month mark and came out ahead. Hope to be ahead on the taco too at the end of the lease, but time will tell.

Had an access cab (canadian 16's at the time only had one choice for O/R) got married and changed our whole finance around. If you do the math on the Toyota page you'll see its impossible to come out behind. If you run into financial challenges you'll always be able to unload it, provided you don't attach a ton of expensive accessories or un-needed protection plans. I work for Toyota so I had a really appealing lease take over, 440$ /mo for a new Taco O/R didnt take long for me to have someone takeover.

I know you can mod, it just can’t be permanent. I got my lease through SETF (south east Toyota financial) and it says on the website what I can and can’t do. Basically no graphics or stickers and permanent modifications. Bolt on mods are ok such as nerf bars, in channel vent visors, and etc. But it’s all good if you plan to purchase or trade in. Mod no no’s really only apply if you plan to turn in and walk away.

Most manufacturers do that, but 3rd party lease companies are usually ok with doing anything. Ive modded the ever living hell out of a few vehicles ive lease through 3rd parties, and actually made money when returning due to mods.

Lol, I wish I had done that. But regardless, I don’t plan on sinking money into something I don’t plan to keep for a long period of time. At end lease, I’ll most likely trade for another Tacoma or tundra 4x4 ... depending on the wife’s mood ... :D

I gotcha. I have a ACLB now but would consider a DCSB in the future for an OR. I drive pretty far under mileage but like you had mentioned a lot of people say they “come out ahead” at the end of their Tacoma leases. So if they’re close to their mileage limit and coming out ahead then ya know. So if I’m way under mileage like I was with my Subaru, I’m hoping to be in good hands going towards a new Tacoma or buying my current. Thank you for the answer, I appreciate it.

I would have to agree, I wasn’t looking at a TRD PRO grille, side steps, and flag pole bed mount. But have decided to hold off seeing in 3 years I might decide to get a new one, and don’t want to be left with parts that might not fight my new one if I don’t purchase my current.

I got a 4 yr 14k lease. I was 5k upside down in my Dodge Dart and put no money down. They basically got me at 0. Purchase was 34k and I pay 469/mo. After lease end, I will have paid 22k which leaves me with 12k to purchase. Truck should be worth 16 to 18k so I’m already ahead! I know the numbers won’t be exact but that should be in the ball park.

What's your residual at the end of your lease, that's what you'll owe on the buyout of the truck?

Manufacturers put strict rules because they want to resale as a CPO. Third party leasing, they actually own the vehicle, and 99% dont give a shit what you do to it.
