LED Lighting Conversion

Speaking of, @deAutoLED.com and great products.

I'm sorry, I just realized that I forgot to share their Side Marker bulbs and what a difference they are compared to stock.

You can get these in both amber as well as white. It is the same bulb used for the licence plate light (second post on that soon). I prefer the amber color for the side makers and you can see why below.

The Amber color looks much better IMO. However both are awesome and are much better than stock.




They are pretty bright which will pair great with my deAutoLED front turn signals. Their signal bulbs are incredible quality and are hands down the brightest on the market today.

With all the upgrades to brighter headlights, it's important to remember your front turn signals. As the brighter LED and HID lighting upgrades are great. At night time they can drown out the OEM halogen turn signals on your Tacoma. Be sure to upgrade your turn signals as well and be safe out there.

Yes sir, I'm still blown away by the Xenon Depot LEDs I initially reviewed. Every single time I use them I think how great they are and how well they light up the road in front and to the sides of me keeping my family and I safe.

I know HIDs are on paper are brighter but honestly I'm still an LED guy. I like the instant on aspect.

If you'd like me to do another review of the newer versions of the low beam and high beam LEDs PM me and we can discuss the details.

HID are king - instant on doesn't mean much since when you turn on the HID it is still brighter at 40% than most LEDs at 100%:

I don't blame you for not wanting to trudge through all the pages here either. I understand your financial situation and while mine isn't the exact same as yours, money isn't growing on the trees in my back yard either. With that said, there are some great upgrades you can do for a heck of a lot less than some of us are willing to spend in this thread. Head out to one of your local auto parts stores or even Walmart and take a look at their selection of brighter aftermarket halogen bulbs. I think a lot of people like the Silverstar lineup. You could also check out Amazon and the reviews people are posting there.

This thread has primarily evolved into a more higher end LED product thread. Respectfully, it has been my experience that with this technology spending less doesn't always mean more. I've been running the Xenon Depot Extreme Pro LEDs for some time now and they have performed flawlessly. Not a single issue. The previous LEDs I had, were, at the time excellent. They cost just as much. They were not as efficient though. The Xenon Depot LEDs are definitely better.

Some guys will say they're ok with spending $20 or $30 for a set of brighter/whiter halogens every year or two. Yes, they will burn out. Myself, I'm not ok with that. I would rather spend $80 or $90 for a far superior set of LEDs that at least come with a 2 year warranty. I would rather spend more for the increased safety that purchase provides.

But again, I completely understand you wanting to save some money and I encourage it

When did this thread become a commercial for DeAutoLED instead of a topic to deseminate all info regarding LED’s? Even if they are the best product in the world I am so turned off by incessant posts that I’ll never buy them now.

Also, and it's likely irrelevant now but why is the "hot spot" in the 2nd photo you posted so abnormal? That's a tell tale sign those LEDs are only worth $37 bucks.

It should be smooth and even with no weird hot spots or lines, and be smooth and even like this

 

It seemed to be a thread to share what people used and what worked. If people are using the product and it works better than others normally more posts follow.

We post to simply to throw our hat in the ring. It is up the consumer at the end and apologize you feel that way.

We had too many people email the team about LEDs in the tacoma and it simply won't be the best or brightest and many are switching to HIDs for this reason but if someone is happy with the brightness of LEDs that is fine.

 

The H11 is the bulb type for the high beam, low beam and fog lights for the truck. The color will be shown with the letter K behind it and stands for Kelvins, i.e. 5000K.

Here's a chart to explain it better.



Our DRLs are approximately 5500K. The Xenon Depot H11 Extreme Pro LEDs are a perfect match.

 

We've always promoted the manufacturer, retailer or vendor of the products we review.

 

This is not just 'on paper' you can see here, the XD HIDs measure 3.8x brighter than the LEDs. There is no comparison in output, HIDs are vastly superior.

Unfortunately no-one in this thread takes an actual scientific approach to lighting or has the educational background to actually understand the physics. Instead the dirty secret is to promote posting reviews of the free promo-gear people received by a lighting vendor to boost the vendors visibility. This is the exact kind of BS marketing I have campaigned against for years. While this thread may have had its challenges, it was actually better off before vendors got involved. Believe it or not, the Hikari's recommended in this thread before the vendor bias and giveaways are actually higher performing than the DeAutoLEDs or the XD LEDs, and I have scientifically measured numbers to demonstrate it. But the trend has now become whomever is the latest vendor to give away product is the one to be recommended, even though they are scientifically less performant it is not measured, which is unfortunate. This thread used to be steered by independent research, it is now steered by vendor giveaways.

 

Anyone know if there’s a comprehensive list out there by a similarly industrious 2nd Gen owner?

Industrious is my word of the day to sound smarter than I am.

 

I am a 2nd gen owner and have tested many thousands of dollars in LEDs on my own dime with no vendor accountability using professional grade light testing equipment far better than what most lighting vendors use.

But it all really depends on exactly what you are looking for. If looking for corner/signal/marker LED lights these guys will be better able to help you out than I.

 

Damn dude, that accusation is over the line and dickish. I paid for the Hikari's I reviewed. I did receive the XD LEDs in lieu of my review. But you don't know me and you certainly don't know enough about my character. Definitely not enough to attack my integrity openly like that. I don't care if you believe it or not but my word is my bond and I may not be perfect but one thing I am is honest.

As far as my assmement goes, I have perfect vision (corrected) and my eyes tell my brain what they see. Then I take photos to prove what I see and show that evidence to others. I may influence someone with those results but I've never forced them to buy anything. I certainly don't need scientific proof to turn a light on and see that it's bright, and brighter than another light. What's crazy is, not one person has regretted their decision.

All your scientific data is great and I'm sure you help other people make decisions they couldn't otherwise on their own. You're just doing it differently than I am. Yet, oddly, I've never posted a negative response to anything you say, like you've done so many times to me and others. It's not because I can't dispute it, it's because I feel like I don't have to. My data is just as conclusive and uncompromised as yours.

I really feel sorry for you. Mostly though I feel sorry for the people close to you in your life, and I'm very glad I'm not one of them.
