anyone have thoughts on any changes coming for the 2020 Tacoma?? I’m thinking of trading my 16 ORDC for an 18 merely for the safety features, rebate and peace of mind of warranty...before my basic warranty runs out. I’m in good shape financially on trade just wondering if anyone knows of any interesting tweaks coming this fall when 2020 drops.
    Thanks!!!

No offense, but isn’t one of the reasons why you buy a Tacoma is for reliability? The warranty shouldn’t be to much a cause of concern. Safety features IMO add more complexity to these vehicles that’s unnecessary. I say that because in Europe they teach their drivers to actually drive with a much stricter training. When I was there for my travel time, I never saw anyone on their cellphone, saw 1 accident and people were very attentive.

Change the way you drive and be cautious and that is your built in safety sense.

Pay off your truck and enjoy it for the next 300,000+ miles. Cheers

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just pay more attention and buy an extended warranty?

OP here..It’s a second vehicle for me and I have all the safety features on my company car (Subaru) and I personally like them. I have a spotless driving record and am not a speed demon, I just like the added safety as a single dad of a small kid. It’s just a peace of mind thing with me and that’s all! As to my original question, I do like the added safety and wondering if anyone knows of any interesting changes coming for 2020 and thanks!

I highly doubt there will be any changes. Its WAY too early to tell though. We won't start hearing about anything until Summer 2019. But its my guess that Toyota is going to focus on a redesign for the T4R or Tundra next year which means nothing for the Tacoma.

The 19s got some add on USB ports, power tailgate lock, mostly add on options not standard changes. I don’t have the tech package on my 18 so I just have the lane departure which I don’t use, distance pacing cruise and the collision detection which I hope I never use. I’m the same way though, have a 2yr old daughter and boy on the way, and I like that the truck is very safe. I wouldn’t expect anything major to change so you can still get a deal on an 18 or even a 19 if you don’t want to wait.

I wish they made the tundra look like a full size Tacoma. I hate the looks of the tundra, but if it was identical to a Tacoma but full size, then just take my money.

I don't think they are really trying on the Tundra, They know its not one of the big 3 (ford, chevy, dodge) So why waste the money trying to compete like one of them. I definitely believe we will see a re-design in the next 2 years. The powertrain I think still runs with the best of them but interior is seriously lacking. Tundra is a great work-horse truck, possibly the best. But White collar america doesn't want a work horse truck, they want a Cadillac Truck.

Definitely true, they’ve been phoning it in on the tundra for years. I sat in one and instantly thought nope, not for 45k with this interior. It’s too outdated, I liked the power but also the piss poor gas mileage, yea I couldn’t live with 13mpg on a good day. My dads Ram is getting 19+ without really driving for economy. Ok back on topic, 2020 Tacoma most likely the same as the 19.

No way I would trade in my 17 for a newer model just for the safety stuff. I'd wait for a real tangible improvement. To some TSS might be enough, but not me.

That’s why we have a Highlander, I work from home and my wife is part time so she will drive my truck when if im home with the kids. Once my daughter is forward facing we can get them both in the Tacoma.

You will hemmorhage more money throughout your lifetime constantly buying new cars with warranties than you would buying old POS trucks that require engine and trans rebuilds.

Hold off on getting an '18. Safety stuff is good, but not yet "perfected." I've gotten the random "BRAKE!" warning twice now. They still have some stuff to work out. Maybe they'll release software to further reduce false alerts. I'd just hold off for a year or two.

Side note: I do wish they would've gone with the dual camera set up like in the Subaru's Eyesight, instead of the sensor in the front emblem. And the BSM in the rear bumper. For promoting the truck as an off-road machine, it's perplexing to me why they would place these sensitive components in very vulnerable spots.

As vehicles get more sophisticated and technologically advanced, historic reliability won't apply to the TSS etc. The more features, the more that can go wrong.

Personally, I would not trade up.

My light comes on in the snow and rain for the radar and collision detection, so it’s basically useless in any wet conditions.

I've not driven it in snow, but no issues in the rain. I'm not sure what caused those two false alarms.

I don't know that it is "WAY too early" I mean they have released the photos/videos and specs for the 2020 Corolla and the 2020 TRD Camry and Avalon... So they are now releasing the data on 2020 Toyota cars already. Info on the trucks might not be as far off as you think. :notsure:

I stand corrected, we got teaser pics in February and the 2019 TRD Pro was debuted late March at the Chicago Auto Show. Still doesn't change my mind that there won't be any changes.
